What happens if I decide to delete everything under this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurePipeServers\winreg\AllowedPaths\Machine

I do not have a network..

More importantly export the key before deleting so that you can restore it if necessary.

Best advice - leave it alone and stay out of the Registry unless you are 110% sure of what you are doing :)

Stupid question. Why do you want to do it?

From what I understand, it holds the paths that are remotely accessible...

I was hoping someone could shine more light on it.. I was more interested in what it's going to cripple... I know that I've read it will cripple things like network printers.. but, as I said, I don't have a network..

I FULLY AGREE with this line quoted by PeteC

    Been there.
    Done that type of thing.
WILL NOT do it again. Unless I know EXACTY what it is for.

For one reason I have found that sometimes things are tied together more than we realize.

You probably guess from my other post, 'XP Security', what I am doing.. I'm trying to make sure XP is very tight...

I'll give it a go tomorrow and let everyone know what happens, even if nothing happens as a result.

    [Edit]

OK, removed all the entries in that key and restarted.. I see no visual affects, the event log is clear of any errors or warnings, everything seems to be functional.. I will report if anything happens after this post.

    I found the following:

This would lead me to believe that removing the paths from this key would prevent any bypassing of access to remote use of the registry. Which is why this is a security measure.
