Hello, I am new to this website. I was trying to do a clean instell of Win2k using boot disks at http://bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm or disk at http://lambcutlet.org/versatile/win2kbootcd.html see I have 2 w2k computers or HAD (laptops), and 2 win98 computers (Desktops) that have cd burners. The first site always gives me a ***STOP: ...... Error 0x0000007B ........................................................................... (ETC)... INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE The second is a: BOOT:Couldn't find NTLDR Please insert another disk_ Anybody have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    no1unorightnow

    P.S.,
Just wiped HD clean after chatting w/ Gateway techs (about 12 times) Used GWSCAN

    no1unorightnow - Welcome to the Board :)

If I understand your post correctly you are trying to install W2k without an installation CD? This is not possible - the boot disks merely enable you to boot the computer to format, partition, etc the hard drive prior to installing W2k from an install CD.

If you have a W2k installation CD you should set the boot order in Bios to CD-ROM > Floppy > Hard Drive and boot from the installation CD.

    Ok, I understand that part...

Thanks, but I thought the site http://lambcutlet.org/versatile/win2kbootcd.html was how you can CREATE a installation disk... Am I mistaken? Or Is there some other way I can make it from an existing w2k installation? You see, I have another computer that has w2k on it, and can transfer/copy files from it to my cd-burning desktops (runinng win98se.) Any other help will be appreciated.

    Thank you lots,

No, you are not mistaken - now that I have looked at the URL you posted it does appear to outline a method of creating a W2k installation disk. (Sorry, I don't always have time to look at all the URLs in posts - and I am particularly busy at the moment. Just be aware that we are all volunteers on the BBS, givng support in our own time :) )

I assume you have followed the instructions to the letter - and used the burning program that is suggested?

Would you confirm that you have set the boot order in Bios on the computer that you are now endeavouring to load W2k to CD-ROM > Floppy > Hard Drive.

Am I right in assuming that the error messages you posted show up when you try to boot from the CD you made?
suggests that the computer is not seeing/reading the CD drive and
suggests it is trying to boot from the A:\ drive - the floppy.

I suggest you try this ....

Download a Win 98 startup disk from www.bootdisk.com. Boot the computer from this floppy with CD-ROM support. This will leave you at the A:\ prompt. Insert your burnt W2k CD and change to the drive letter of your CD-ROM, presumably D:\ and type in Setup > Enter. Keep your fingers crossed and see what the outcome is.

I quite agree... I have looked at multiple websites now, and feel that I'm very close to getting the problem fixed.... Now I get a different error message when I try to do these instructions: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/w2k/ The new error reads,(without quotes,) "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration... NTDETECT failed "

Any ideas people? Thank you much,

    no1unorightnow:)
