In the past couple of weeks I've been running Spyware and Anti-Virus programs to try and clean-up my system.
As a result, a system file became Missing/Corrupt and so I did an XP repair.

Also, for some reason my computer locks up on the inital BIOS Boot and I have to hit the Reset to get it to ReBoot and then it sometimes Reboots once or twice before it finally gets to the Window Stratup Screen.

I was told that I may need to replace the battery on my MB (ASUS A7V), so I did that, but still the same problem.

Now the reason for this POST.

Since I did the two things mentioned above, I don't know what happen, but Windows does not see the CD and DVD devices I have.:(

I check the Device Mgr and the DVD/CD Rom Drives it shows "AXV CD/DVD-ROM SCSI CdRom Device ". I have Liteon CD and DVD devices.

Now on my MB there are two different IDE connections: Primary/Secondary Ultra ATA100/IDE and Primary/Secondary IDE.

My CD and DVD are connected to the Secondary IDE. If I change their connector to the Secondary Ultra ATA100/IDE connector, then they show up in the Device Mgr.

This wasn't a problem until now.
What did I do and what do I need to do to correct this???

    3.

I have C: & D: on Primary Ultra ATA100 and E: on Secondary Ultra ATA100. That's why I have my CD and DVD on the Secondary IDE.

how are they chained up on the machine? what's on what IDE etc.

this is almost surely an IDE config issue in bios

i'm not familiar w/ that MB but .... it's docs hold the answer ;) ... u've got more than 4 IDE devices and one of the chains is setup as raid/sata/non-standard

    BeetleBailey,

As per info available about your motherboard, your motherboard can support 8 IDE drives (wow - that's the first time I have seen such a thing).

It has 2 IDE chips - one is normal ATA-66 and the other one is Promise ATA-100. [http://www.dansdata.com/a7v.htm].

Now since this confusion about your motherboard is clear, we can all start understanding & answering your question.

It seems that your ATA-66 Primary/Secondary IDE has been disabled in BIOS. Just take a peek inside the BIOS & enable them.

    Great News!!!

    GREAT News!!! :D

    1. I Removed and Replaced my processor and moved my Memory Sticks around (swapped them around) and now my system boots right up.

    2. I went into Device Manager and Right Clicked on some items (IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers; Pri. IDE Channel; Sec. IDE Channel, VIA Bus Master IDE Controller) and clicked on "Update Driver" and both the Pri./Sec. IDE Channel drivers did. Next thing I know I have my CD and DVD drives up and running - Praise the Lord!!!

Now I have in the Device Manager a couple of "Unknown Devices" popping up under "Other Devices ". How do I remedy that? I've not added any devices.
