I tried to post this, with no results, at another newsgroup, but I have more information. I get a Java error-General Exception at http://www.ecoradio.it
It is an Italian site, and it opens correctly. The problem starts after I click on the very large "Live Streaming ". I should get an embedded WMP based player.
It is ok at the Waiting stage ( I am looking at Status Bar), but during the Transferring stage I get the error. The details are:java.lang.ClassNotFound
Exception, caused by java.io.IOE, open HTTP connection failed ( and, a lot more details).
I gave a report to the website (amazingly, I can write, understandably, in Italian, after 55 yrs), and they said that they tested at their end, and that it must my computer problem. They did not say how they tested, but IE6 works, and also NS7.2 has no problem. NS8.1 took a while longer, coming up with an exception while buffering. FF1.0.7, FF1.5.0.1 and SM1.0 did it very quickly.
What is the difference? There are nine .dll files in each plugins folder. Except for a couple, they all have the 1.5.06 java update.
    Any hint?

Note1: I have had the same type of error, especially in FF1.5 at other websites, and they were American, but never pursued this.
Note2: Firefox1.0.7 and the 1.0.8 nightly start, actually, playing, and the error comes up after it starts playing. I can keep the error box, and there is no problem. As soon as the player comes up, I get Class NPDS.npDSE.vtObsProxy.class not found. The same message is found in NS8.1, as well.

    Westside,

The Italian site works for me in Firefox 1.5.0.1, and SeaMonkey 1.0. Also works in Opera. The rest of the Gecko browsers (Netscape 7.2, Netscape 8.1, and Mozilla 1.7.12, produced errors. IPF's in GKLAYOUT.DLL (Netscape 7.2) and in Mozilla 1.7.12 first an Illegal Operation in Plugin error, then an IPF in JS3250.DLL.

Netscape 8.1 did nothing when clicking on the Live Streaming, or any other link on the page?

    Ramona,
if I remember correctly you did the upgrade to 1.5.0.1 with the 1.5.0.1 setup file, and, not with the incremental, as I did. There may be some similarity in behavior because of that. In another thread, I was asking about the looks of the players, or any popup. In my 1.5.0.1, I am getting only about half of a player. This has been consistent with any of WMP-based players.
As for Seamonkey1.5a, it has been a mess. since 2-10, I has not shown correctly the e-mail accounts. Only one is expandable in the Mail and News Account Settings. Then, it worked on the 2-25 nightly, and then it went back to its crummy way. Do you mean Seamonkey1.5? There is no final version, yet. Anyway, my nightly did not respond at all.
It is getting more absurd by the minute, with this Java error.
Do you have the correct ActiveX plugin in your programs which gave you the illegal operation.
Note that I thought that 8.1 was not responding, while it was, placing tabs all over, but not opening. It worked when I opened the Tab, but with a Java error, following the beginning of the stream. A reply from the station suggested that it may be a permission problem, and they provided this link
It gives a simplified player, and it gives an error with the same browsers which did not work (Kmeleon 1.7.12 works fine).
I think that I will get a split personality, going back and forth from English to Italian to English. They have been very prompt in replying. Wait till I tell them what you found.

    FWIW.

All the links and streaming audio work for me in SM 1.0 (final) FF 1.5.0.1, Moz 1.7.12 and NS 7.2........including the abbreviated link in your last post.

    No errors, Java or otherwise.

    regards:captjlddavis

    Westside,

Yes, I do mean SeaMonkey 1.0. When I tried the second link you were given in Mozilla 1.7.12, it crashed/froze Windows, so I didn't try it with any other browser, except Fx, which did work.

I do have the mozactivex17.xpt plugin installed in 1.7.12.

Your memory is right on, as I always use the offline, full installer, and you might also remember that I am still running Windows 98SE. I'm trying to hang on until Dell starts installing Vista on its PC's.

When we see you start replying in your Native Language, then we will know that the other has taken over... :D

    Ramona,
I don't know if the OS has anything to do with this. I have uninstalled Moz1.7.12, and moved on to Seamonkey1.0, but to the best of my recollections the ActiveX control file was npmozax.dll. Mozactiveax17.xpt is in none of the plugins folders.
But, this is a moot point, because as I had said before is not found. Errors of this kind have been reported with other applications, mainly Real Player.
The behavior with this website, on my computer has been all over the place. I am not discussing IE, where it should work, but NS7.2, Opera8.52 and Kmeleon1.7.12 give no problems. I get this delayed reaction with FF1.0.7, and right off the bat error with other browsers. But, there is no lasting effect.
Only Seamonkey1.5a is unresponsive, but it has been a mess this past month, and, I am not testing it any more.

    Westside,

Once Mozactiveax17.xpt is installed, it is npmozax.dll. Sorry that wasn't made clear...

Thanks, Ramona. Not having Moz1.7.12 does not matter anyway.
Still I am amazed by the wide response encountered by three of us. No wonder that those poor guys in Italy could not figure out what was going on.

By the way, technically, no one speaks Italian (the written language, in Italy), although they sure try to hammer it in the schools. There are so many dissimilar dialects, that no one understands the other, unless one has advanced education
(this is a general statement). English is great to understand each other.
