    Hello:
    I use Win2000 with IE 6.0 SP1.

I have McAfee Internet Security Suite installed on my computer. Under the Firewall Panel, there is a list of "Services" that have FULL access to the internet. Is there something that can tell me which of these services is really neccessary to have access to the internet ?
    .
Some of the listed services are:
    Microsoft RSVP
    Windows Media Player
    Windows Explorer
Generic Host Process For Win32 Services
    .
Also, under Administrative Tools/Services, there are many services that are listed as "Automatic Startup ". Some are already started but don't seem related to what I am doing on the computer. Are these, or can these, be a security threat ?
    .
I am new to this site. I notice there are several links to down-loadable software. Can I assume these are all safe to download and use ?
    .
    Thank You

    Hello DCAC,

    Microsoft RSVP
    Windows Media Player
    Windows Explorer
Generic Host Process For Win32 Services

Of the apps you listed, you do need Generic Host Process For Win32 Services (the process that Windows Update uses to search for updates piggy backs out on it) and Windows Explorer (because IE6 uses parts of it) to access the internet.

As for the rest, my opinion is the firewall should ask permission.

For the Services, unless you have info on what they do and you're willing to experiment, you should leave them as is.

    Regards - Charles
