can i get rid of this stuff that dell put on my computer? i dont need some of this stuff. and some of it im not sure if i need it or not. like dell picture studio3 thats got a $60 tag on it and ive never used it. what about sonic,do i need it to burn cds and rip them? what about quick books? dont think ill use that. now what about dell jukebox? do i need that? especially since i just finished burning and ripping 22 cds, without its help(it wanted to help to the ripping part but i cancelled it.

in short,do i need this? i got the media center(thats another thing) and the window media player which has been and will be doing all the work. doesnt windows have paint? im not artistic.

i just did a pc restore on the 24th and i dont want anymore problems and i want to goof getting something off if it is needed. know what i mean?:)

If you don't use Dell picture studio, then you don't need it. :) You can probably uninstall it in add>remove programs. Same goes for Sonic. I can't tell you if you really need it or not though. You can use windows built in cd burning software to burn cds. The only catch is I don't think you can burn audio cds with it. So, if you don't burn audio cds and don't burn data disks very often, the windows software will probably be all you need. You have to be the judge on that. It may also have come with MusicMatch Jukebox. If you don't use it, uninstall that too. If you do use it you might check out Winamp. It won't nag you to death about purchasing the full version like MusicMatch does (unless you've already paid for it).

My daughter bought a new Dell last fall. I don't remember what was all on it but after I got done with it, I don't think there was a single thing left in add>remove programs that had the word Dell in it. This may not be for you though. You have to look at the programs and determine if you ever use them. If not, and it were me, I'd get rid of them. As I said though, you have to be the final judge. ;)

    I second what Zander said.

However, I have read about, and run into, some problems using the WinXP CD burning software/service. I would leave the Sonic CD burning software installed and disable the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service. That is if you feel comfortable changing the services on your PC.

Also, if you are running Norton GoBack(I think it's still Norton's) or some similar program, you could try this...

Uninstall the things you know you won't use, (Quick Books, demo games, etc.) then set a restore point in GoBack and reboot.

You could also post a list of what you have in this or some other forum and ask for advice.

zander and lostuser thanks for answering so promply. you guys are so good.
zander,if by audio you mean music the media player handled both the burning before the pc restore and the ripping afterwards. all 1.46gb play good(i know because i had to listen to each and everyone of them-why?because i put all those burnt cds into an empty library(empty except for dells) so i had to manually type in artist and song on all 404 items(no havent got them all yet).

as for data is that like backing up your files(when windows one care nags you about doing it)? i stick a disk in the tray and say go for it. it does. but i usually use windows the player or one care. as you must know,i am a computer idiot and need all the help i can get. but i will start getting rid of some of the baggage dell gave me. will keep you informed. thanks again, jan:)

-gemMasterMystic: Looks like gemMasterMystic is a game. You can try running it and see what you get as long as you're pretty sure this PC is clean of wares.
Here is a link with some pics of a game with a similar name.
    http://www.jimbo.net/games/gemmaster3.html
And here is a link of someone else with a Dell who had that software

-learn2player: The learn2player looks like it may have to do with a media player. Can always uninstall that and install what you want if that is what it really is.

-otto: Here is a link with info related to a Dell with otto and that web search software you mentioned.

-Also, finding the executeable files and checking the version info tab under properties can help to give clues about the files and/or their manufacturer.

okay got rid of gemMaster mystic, otto and learn 2

got left sonic ill just put it in a corner someplace. dont really know why i got all this nice stuff from dell(told them no anti-virus) got norton. got rid of it
and really hated their choice in music,oh yeah i forgot dell jukebox (any way to disable the little thing that always wants me to buy it).

loved that review,im not a gamer but i understand and laughed my head off especially about things popping up all the time(like dell jukebox). since i had a computer i have developed a new philosophy about these computer thingies
Dont annoy me. you annoy me and you are gone! i just hope that i dont get annoyed at windows.

    thanks y'll
