that is what she says. especially after i had to do the pc restore on the 24th. i do my antis (anti virus, anti sypyware, anti etc) daily but i do have windows one care set up to run on saturdays. it takes awhile to run everything but i havent had any viruses. she has!

another question if windows one care has an incoming firewall and an outgoing
and windows safety center has one firewall and xp sp2 has its own firewall.and since i have all the above do i have three firewalls?

looks like there is no more microsoft anti-spyware,got windows defender when i went to microsoft after the restore. :)

    Hi, Jan

I think it's an individual thing. You do what you feel comfortable with doing. For me... daily is overkill. I probably do it once, maybe twice a week. But that's really about it. I rarely find anything of any import other than a few low magnitude tracking cookies (which are essentially harmless). So... what can one say, really? Your daughter thinks it's too much.. you think it's just right. Do what makes you feel more secure I guess. :)

Jan: I agree with James on the frequency. Once or twice is week is my schedule, too. What I do more often is check for updates for the anti's I use. I do that daily.

As James says, one's comfort level is important and differs from person to person. What can also differ is how much time you spend on-line, how many different Web sites you visit -- both of which increase the risk of infection -- and how much time you have available to do the checking. One person may do it "live" while another may do it while taking a break and another may schedule it to be done overnight. So there aren't any hard and fast rules.

    james and bobbo

thanks for answering. i'll calm it down about the antis(mainly because im working on getting my music back on this pc after pc restore on the 24th,got 1.46gb so far,and i want the rest.) ill let windows one care do its job weekly and defender do its thing daily. and run adaware, spybot, and spywareblaster when im taking a break from doing the music.

    thanks again y'll:)

It is better to have a firewall that controls incoming & outgoing connections, and the processes using them.
XP's firewall just blocks incoming unsolicited connections, while it allows all outgoing connections, regardless of which process is doing it. If you have a trojan, it can connect out freely, and some are 'smart' enough to create it's own Exception for the XP firewall, where it could open a port and accept any connection that comes by.
If you have a third party firewall, you can disable the windows firewall.
