This is getting on my nerves!!! It's simple, but the solution just seems to escape me. I recently had to replace my hard drive. Well, anyway, everytime I open outlook express I have it set up to go straight to my inbox. But here's my problem...I can't stand the preivew pane, but I have to select to have it closed every single time I open my email. I use to be able to make this selection once and only once, but now I have to do every time.

How can I get this to stick so that I won't have to close the preview pane every single time I open outlook express?

As a work around for now you can add a button to the toolbar for the preview pane if you haven't already done so. Right click on the toolbar and choose customize. It'll save you a couple clicks anyway.

I've never had this problem before and don't really know much about outlook express. Only really started using it about a year. So thanks for any information you can provide. In the mean time I will check out the link left by mrbill.

well, it's fixed. I went through the entire thing again resetting outlook express to open straight to my inbox without the preview pane and then immediately exited out of the program; and it worked.

I originally would set my preferences and leave the program open until I shut down windows and let it closed down all the applications on auto shut down, but I had it set up to auto start once I turned on my system, well until I did it differently it would open with the previous settings. But when I set my new preferences and then exited and then reopened it...it worked. Anyway... I hope I made since just now.

Thanks for letting us know what worked for you. It may help somebody else in the future.

Yes, you make perfect sense, to me anyway. Often times when you set preferences in a given program (especially with OE and IE it seems) you need to close the program after setting them and then reopen it for the changes to take effect. Sorry you didn't get any help on this but my guess is that it never occurred to anybody just what it was you were doing when you set the preferences (at least in my case anyway) . It should have occurred to me to ask though. Thanks again for letting us know. ;)

No problem, Zander. I thought it would be a good thing to at least tell folks that I don't need an answer any more, but even better to include what I did to fix it.

I'm enjoying my registration here, there have been times that these members have helped me out. So thanks for your wanting to help.
