    Alan,

    Do the following:

    1. Close all Internet Explorer windows. Also, close Outlook Express.
    2. Go to Control Panel and open Internet Options.
    3. Click on the Connections tab.
    4. Click on LAN Settings.
    5. UNcheck "Automatically detect settings ".
(Make sure nothing is checked there).
    6. Click OK.
    7. Click Apply. Then, OK !

I looked in Lan settings as u suggested. Nothing was checked in either "automatically detect settings ", "use automatic configuration script ", or proxy server field. To be safe I clicked ok again w/no IE or OE windows open. Its weird cause this started happening out of the blue last week. I ran a scan w/Microsoft antispyware & Spybot S&D and both came back negative. Why would IE all of the sudden start in w/this. Do u think removing the dialup account would alleviate problem? I really dont want to do that unless problem persists. thanx for the advice. If anything else comes to mind please post.

I have a dial up account also if need be. I just remove it when not needed and install when needed. It would not hurt to try. Just make sure you remember your settings for it.
