Downloads stop in progress.

Having trouble downloading since i switched to windows firewall. Was using Norton internet security but new program slowed computer so bad i switched.
Anyhow, When trying to download the download will stop at various points and I must go an re-initiate download. It will pick up were it left off but with a large download this is a pain. What causes this problem and how can I resolve it?

I have confirmed that the Windows firewall is causing downloads to stop. When disabled they download fine. I cannot find any reference to this problem on Microsoft's web site.

 

densaw--Agree with PeteC about the need to use a firewall, but use only one.
I have used Zone Alarm (free) for years without a problem.

Also cleaning out your Temporary Internet Files might help.

Thanks to both welshjim & Pete C for reply. Yes I do use firewall only dis-abled to experiment. I will try one of mentioned firewalls. Thanks again.
