windows installer error

    I get the message "The installation source for this product is not available...." when trying to install any new programs.

    Look here and see if this is relevant ....

    "Error 1606. Could not access network location <common administrative tools>. All users\" error message when you install a program I rather doubt that it is, but always worth a read.

    I wonder if you may have a corrupt user profile .... Try logging on as Administrator or create a new user profile and see if that makes any difference.

    If none of the above helps run System File Checker ....

    Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow > OK noting the space before the forward slash and have your XP install CD handy.

    Failing that a Repair of Windows may be your only option, but wait for other responses before considering that.
