Need to delete a few items from the send to dropdown menu but having no luck
in finding out how to do this. Plenty of advice on adding an item tho.

A search here and google didnt show anything.

    any solutions?
    thanks,

Open windows explorer and go to c:\documents and settings\username\send to. Delete the ones you don't want.

    I Did that.
What i saw was 3 files:
    Compressed (zipped) folder
    desktop (create shortcut)
    and a desktop.ini

Didnt see each item showing in the sendto dropdown list.

    thanks,

Well, I'm not sure where they'd come from then. On mine, I have nine shortcuts in the send to menu. All but two of them have shortcuts in the send to folder. The two that don't are 3 1/2 floppy and removable disk (o: ) . The one for the removable disk disappears when I unplug my memory card reader and reappears when I plug it in so I imagine that one is somehow a function of the OS. My guess is that if I unplugged the floppy drive the entry for it would disappear too. There may be a registry edit for them but if so, I've never tried to find it so I'm not sure on that one.

You say you have 2 shortcuts and the desktop.ini file in the send to folder. How many entries are in the menu? What are the ones you're trying to get rid of?

Sorry, I think i stated it wrong.
    Try this:
When i right-click on a folder or file, i see a dropdown menu (send to is one
of the selections in this dropdown menu).

What i want to do is remove these items from this dropdown menu.
    View with EncSpot
    Print with DirPrint
    Add to winamp bookmark list
    Enqueue in Winamp
    Play in Winamp
    7-zip

Other selections (I want to keep these) are:
    Open
    Explore
    Search
    Refresh thumbnail
    Sharing and security
    winzip
    Scan with AVG Free
    Send to
    Cut
    Copy
    Create shortcut
    Delete
    Rename
    Properties

Oh, BTW, When i put the mouse onto the compressed (zipped) folder, it shows
a size of 0 bites and when i open it with winzip, it also shows nothing there....

    thanks,

those are shell extentions. u should probably uninstall any apps that u don't want and they should be gone that way. but ... u CAN get a prog like regcleaner - think it's no longer free tho - and see it's shellex tabs to kill them.

someone may know the .reg keys that contain the shell extensions tho. eg - they're in the registry and can be removed from there too.

Well, that changes things. Its not worth the trouble to go messing around in
the registry even tho i have backups.

Maybe i'll save this for a rainy day project.

    thanks, guys,

The Winamp ones are easy enough. Open Winamp, click options>preferences>file types. Uncheck the box next to the line that says "show winamp in folder context menus in windows explorer ".

I don't know about the rest of them though. I'd have a look in the options of the others and see if there's a similar setting in them. I know 7-zip doesn't have this in it's options though. It would either require a registry edit or you could use shellexview to get rid of them. If you use shellexview you can disable them or delete them. Your choice. Probably best to disable them first to make sure it's the one you want.

If you use it, when you first open it, sort them by "type" by clicking on the "type" column at the top. Then look at those that say "context menu" under the type column. When you find the one you want, right click on it to disable or delete.

You're welcome. Glad to hear it did the trick (for the most part anyway). :)
