I would like to set a rule that prevents an autoresponse (out of office assistant) from being sent unless the recipient is within my company (e.g., same domain in email address). I receive a lot of spam at work and am concerned about my autoresponse message being sent to the spammers containing my backup's email address and phone number.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

    Thank you!

What version of Outlook are you running? Or if not Outlook, what mail client?

    Newt,
    I'm running Outlook 2000.

Interesting idea - and one that I would have thought had been allowed for but apparently not.

Only way I can think of is to have a second email account that you only use for the "out of office" responses. Then you could set up a filter to forward all internal email to that account and have it do the "out of office" response for you. when you are in the office, just uncheck that particular filter.

This way I think you can simily set a rule where the "from" line contains *mydomain.com. Haven't tried it but it certainly should work.

There may be a better way of doing this with Off2K but I can't find or figure one out.

Too bad you can only set up rules for specific "from" addresses rather than having a "not from" option as well.

I wouldn't worry about it too much as spam generally does not contain a valid Reply To address.

    Newt/Brett,
Thanks for the responses. Brett's probably right, there's probably not much to worry about. It just seemed like something that should be possible.
Take care guys and thanks again!
