    Hi,
    I was trying to help my friend today get rid of a virus or whatever it is that is on her computer. It was running great a few weeks ago and her son moved in with her and was using it to help him find a job. Well, I'm not sure but I think he did get on **** sites and now the computer is having all kinds of problems.

    I was able to get rid of a message saying "error loading EDGACCESS.dll by downloading a remover from Majorgeeks. But I'm still having a problem getting rid of this error message.

    The error message keeps popping up from the taskbar at the right by the clock. It keeps blinking as a Microsoft icon and then a Red X in it and the popup says, "Your computer is infected!!! Possible harmful infection was detected on your PC. The system will now download and install the most efficient spyware removal program to prevent private data loss and your identity theft. Click here to protect your PC: www.spyfalcon.com/?aff=252 "

    I do not want to buy this software and whatever I do, it needs to be purchased before it will delete them.

    I have also tried to install a few spyware checkers but all of them needs to be purchased before they will help me.

    I also ran Ad-Aware, Spy-Bot, and AVG virus checker but none of these have helped. I still get that same pop-up.

    Any suggestions of what to do next will be appreciated. I now have her computer here at my house so I can run any check necessary.

    Are there any free sites out there that will help me get rid of this annoying infection.

    Thank you.

    Jean

    P.S. I'm right now running a program called "Spyware Doctor," but I'm not sure if it will just find the problem but not delete it until I purchase it.

    larsonjean--
    That should find and help you remove spyware. But did you update each of these programs before scanning with them? They will not be effective otherwise.
    In any event, I definitely would not use spyfalcon.
    See this page. It offers an explanation and a removal fix.

    That SpyFalcon is also SpySheriff. Do not click anywhere in that box!. Please follow the instructions below. Spyware Doctor is worthless.

    Run using IE. (ActiveX with need to be enabled - Place site URLs into Trusted sites);

    Panda ActiveScan

    HouseCall

    Download, update, run and remove anything they find (read the tutorials to set them up);

    Ewido Security Suite

    Ewido Security Suite tutorial

    AdAware

    AdAware tutorial

    SpyBot S&D

    SpyBot tutorial

    Please go to control panel/ folder options/ view and select show hidden and system files
    Also uncheck "hide file extensions of known file types "

    The first thing you should do after you download HijackThis is follow this.

    Put HijackThis in a Permanent folder.

    Click My Computer, then C:\

    In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.

    That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis ". Now you have C:\HJT.

    Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.
    Click the button Do a sytem scan and save a logfile.
    This will open the logfile in Notepad. You will need to copy & paste the complete log into your HijackThis thread.

    This will allow backups to be made and saved By Hijack This in case something goes wrong.

    HijackThis 1.99.1

    After doing all this post the HJT log at http://www.windowsbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?f=41.

    I have been working on all the suggestions you sent.

    I did run the Panda ActiveScan and it seemed to remove some of the spyware or whatever it was.

    I have tried three times to run HouseCall but after installing Java and then try to install, I get an error message saying: "An erroy occurred while trying to transfer data from the internet. Do you want to try again."
    When I do, it just repeats itself and finally I close it out after several tries.

    I am running Ewido Security Suite as I type and they show 3 Infected objects so I'll wait to see if they can be cleaned.

    I'll report back to you with in the morning as it is getting late and I'm tired.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Wow! Thanks a lot for all the help.

    I'm not sure what program did it because I ran so many but I think it may have been Panda. I have ran it plus all the others several times now and I always get "No infected Objects Found. "

    I did post the HiJackThis to the forum group you told me about but I can't seem to find it now but nonetheless since the computer is now free of spyware and malware, I don't need an answer.

    Thanks again for the help.

    Thanks again for all the help, Whiskyman, the computer is back to its owner and he is very happy with it since there are no more pop-ups, etc.
