need to restore my cd Icon or undo what I did:(

Create a Boot Disk from CDENAB.EXE

To create a boot disk, perform the following steps:

Click on the file name below to download a boot disk creation program:
    CDENAB.EXE
NOTE: After clicking on the file above, the File Download window will appear. The window prompts you to select Run this program from its current location or Save this program to disk.

Click the Save this program to disk button, and then click OK.
    The Save As window appears.
Choose a location for the file that you are about to download, and then click the Save button.
NOTE: Common locations for internet downloads can be: My Documents, Downloads, or the Desktop.

When the file download completes, located the file and double-click the file name to begin creating a boot disk.
The Bootable DOS Diskette for CD-ROM Support window appears.

    Click Setup.
The Command Prompt window appears and advises that a blank formatted diskette is required.
Press the <Enter> key on your keyboard.
Insert a diskette into the floppy disk drive, and then press the <Enter> key.
You are advised that the disk in Drive A is about to be overwritten.
To continue, press the <Y> key on your keyboard, and then press the <Enter> key.
When the new boot disk is complete, you are prompted to press the <Enter> key for the last time.
    Press the <Enter> key.
This will exit out of the command prompt window as well as the Bootable DOS Diskette for CD-ROM Support program.

Once the disk has been created, reboot the system and it should boot to the created floppy disk.
    Return to Overview

Try this,Shutdown the computer, choosing Restart in Dos Mode. Do this command at the prompt:
    scanreg /restore
Then pick a registry dated before this occurred, and reboot.
BTW, you can create a boot floppy from Control Panel\Add Remove Programs, click on Startup Disk tab.

You need to edit the scanreg.ini file. You can find out how to do it here.

How To Backup And Restore Your Registry In Windows 95 & Windows 98

I used to use the batch file mentioned in the article when I used 98. Works great.

If you want to use it and have questions, post back.
    reboot = restart your computer

I can't say for sure. It's possible that it will. My guess is this is one of those things that it would depending on when it first occurred and how often you shut down you computer. By default Windows will save 5 backups. A new backup is made the first time you start your computer each day. So, if you shut the computer down each night, the next morning when you first start it, a new back up will be made and the oldest gets deleted. Only one is made on any given day so they should go back at least 5 days.

If you are one that lets the computer run 24/7, then a backups will go back further because it won't make a new one until you shutdown or restart the computer. It only makes a new one once a day while starting and once started, no new ones will be made as long as the computer keeps running.

This means that if you shut the computer down each night and the problem started more than 5 days ago, it won't fix it. But, if the problem just occurred within the last 5 days and you run scanreg /restore, it's possible it will fix it if you pick a cab file dated before it happened. As long as there's a cab file in the list that's dated before this happened there's a chance this could fix it.

You won't lose any data files or anything like that. Some things may change but they'll be minor. Your wallpaper may be different after running it if it happened to be different when the backup was made, then it is now. Screensaver could change if it was different at the time the backup was made. Any program that you've installed since the date the backup was made may have to be reinstalled. Things like that.

I really kind of doubt that making the boot disk could have anything to do with this. From what you posted in your first post I don't see how it could have anything to do with the cdrom drive.

Is this a cdrom drive or a cdrw drive?

If that doesn't work for you check this older thread to see if it fixes your problem.
