I'm sorry that I have been unable to respond at my usual frequency, but my Father suffered a stroke on Friday and I am now away from home and my attention is clearly elsewhere. As I am now on dialup I only log on in the evening when the charge rate is less.

It seems that you have made some progress :) I have no idea why the disk wanted to install/repair XP Pro a well - may be a multi purpose disk - Never having seen Windows XP Media Centre in any form I am in the dark. I thought that Media Centre was just XP with some additions aimed at multimedia - and I'm sure that that is all it is. So I remain  on this.

BTW - rather than adding to a post by editing it is far better to make another post - that way you can be sure that your edit will be seen. I do not necessarily re-read the earlier posts and almost missed your last edit.

If necessary you can get .NET Framework from here ....

But if you are nissing files they may be sorted by running sfc.

Has this repair fixed the problems you were having?

ah petec hope is going well. this thing is getting out of hand. latest news? dell wants me to do the pc restore. i dont wanna. went to dell yesterday because it seems my key (the one on the tower) is invalid. when i did the thingie where you boot from the dvd (reinstallation disk) didnt need it.didnt ask for it. only when i tried to get sfc and the window file protection said that i needed to load those dlls to the dll cache and for me to put in my windows xp pro cd2 that the key was asked for and thats when i found out it was invalid. dell says that my o/s is media ctr 2002 not xp pro but media ctr isnt listed on the dvd. and windows file protection called for xp pro (not me)
i got smart and went to belarc and the key i got listed on my tower is not there not even close to what i have according to belarc. windows file protection says that i still need those dlls.

remember all those things i said that "could not be loaded" i repaired my net.framework 2.0 and everything seems okay can get into window one care now and dont get that "entry point not found" i guess the sitution is normal ah you know the rest of it. jan :)

petec hope everything is okay with you and your family.

i used the key that belarc had listed and redid windows, and i guess its okay maybe, but it sure took long. every thing went fine until it started loading network( the little thingie said i had 32 mins left) 2hours and 13 minutes later we still had that 32 minutes on the screen. i aborted,i pushed the power button shut it down. then started her up again

and there was windows waiting for me, told me to insert the cd. which i did and off we go again. this time it got to work, finished and the only thing that didnt get loaded was for net.framework, since i repaired and the repair worked cause i could get into window one care. windows brought me back the pop-up thingie that is supposed to appear and ask what you want to do with that dvd or cd you just put in the player. i hadnt seen that in ages glad to see it so far so good. :)

Sounds like it has been a rocky road, but you have made it :) No idea why the install hung at installing the network.

If you still have problems I would seriously consider a clean install with format.

Thank you for asking about the family problems - not good I'm afraid, but we keep on hoping.

petec and ramona thanks for helping me did pc restore on the 24th and wow did it look weird when it came (rather went back) up. had to go though the process of taking off earthlink, aol, netzero, and highspeed internet that dell put on. and the norton everything (told them no anti-virus) and the music that they put on(i kept beethoven's 9th,only thing i recognized).

we are in the process of getting things back to order and finding things i had never seen before. like the hidden system tray icon thingie(neat, before i had no way of knowing what was under that task bar).

last thing i did was burn as much of the music put on via e-mail when i got adell(thats her name) so how im ripping back to her. oh i was so proud of myself, until i ripped the first cd. track #,unknown artist, so now i am having to manually type in song and artist. i ve done 5 cds and have17 more to go.didnt think about her having no music(dont count what dell put on,that's gone)

again i thank both of you. :)

    Jan,

You're too generous with your thanks. I didn't do anything, and Pete did all the hard work, in his usual stellar way!

I'm glad that it's all behind you.
