2 days ago received the following error when trying to start Netscape 7:
The instruction at "0x017a363e" referenced memory at "0x00000000 ". The memory could not be "read ".
Have not been able to log onto internet at all. I've ran Norton AV 2006, Ad-Aware, defragged the system. Tried to system restore back to several dates in Jan, but not letting me.
Any ideas on how I can fix this error? Running XP Home
    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the Forum, Carrie!

    Carrie,

Wanted you to know that you aren't being ignored! I'm not really certain what's going on with your system. The Netscape.exe error was more common in Netscape 4.xx, and there was a patch that could be applied. But this is not true of Netscape 7.

I can't imagine that a Netscape.exe GPF would keep you from going online. I would like more detail, as to:

    - what version of Netscape 7?
    - how much memory on your system?

Have you checked your Firewall and your AntiVirus program to ensure they aren't blocking in any way?

Do you clear your Cache frequently?
    How about your Temp file?
    (C:\Documents and Settings\profilename\Local Settings\Temp )
    OR
    (C:\Windows\Temp

    Thanks!

Carrie, as I understand you are using WinXP Home. I am more curious to find out what was the past history, like how long have you had your Netscape7. Was everything working all along? Was any attempt to install a Mozilla. or any installation in the past two days which may have conflicted with NS7. and, yes, as Ramona pointed out it is important to know which version was used.

I am running Netscape 7.1, and cache is cleared every 2 days. Temp folder is cleared every day. I'll have to ck on memory, but last week when did defrag, 61% was available. Yes, I am running XP home. I was able to access internet thru online help settings for a very short time. I downloaded Seamonkey, but when tried to run the program it just has the opening blue screen and never goes any farther. Last week, I installed a registry fix program and ran it. I've since gone back and restored all the registry's it had deleted, but no change to internet access. I'll ck on firewall and antivirus blocking tonight.
    Thanks

    Carrie,
I removed the sentences which are not relevant. It is not clear to me what done done with Seamonkey, nor when. Blue screen? Do you mean the "splashscreen" with the SM logo? If so, I have had something like that with some bad builds. Now, as far as the NS7.1 problem, you, most likely used the same profile for both Netscape and Seamonkey, since they are located in the same folder. Compounded with the fact that you did something with the registry, I am not taking any bets.
Anyway each program should have its own profile, because each one writes contradictory information into the prefs.js file.
If I had a choice, I would uninstall NS7.1, and install Seamonkey1.0. Then, maybe, just may be SM may be able to use the NS profile.

Ok. I will uninstall NS7.1, and then try SM. Yes SM is the logo screen.
    Thanks

    Carrie,
my advice is to download NS7.2, just in case. NS7.1 had been troublesome to me. I keep almost every browser, and install them separately, and, create new profiles, so that I can continue using them without interference. I would be cautious with Seamonkey (version, please), because it may indicating some program problems. You should create a new profile . Please select the top link. The is was not working for me, now.
