Dudes! I am having the most difficult time running my windows media player 10. I found out today that I no longer have the latest model player. But that's okay, I at least would like to play the clips I download. But I keep getting the error downloading codec message and the clips never play. I have downloaded so many codec packages, but none of them seem to give me the codecs I need. I am running player 10, on windows xp. Can someone help me?

thank you so much for such a quick reply, but i was able to find out which ones I was missing. it seems that I had to locate and download mpeg-2 and mpeg-4 manually. I have since been able to resolve the issue. I think that I have enough codecs on my system to play nearly anything now. With all the research and downloading I did last night...:( boy was it a long night!!! and an early morning!!!!

If you ever re-install and need to find codecs other than the ones included in Media player try the k-lite codec packs found here:

thanks, I'll write that down and try to keep it somewhere I can remember to check. it was so difficult for me, I downloaded so many codec and decoder packages that it puzzles me how these two were not included in any of them. Anyway, thanks again.

The k-lite codec back has 99 percent of all codecs you will ever need. I have used it for years. Spy ware free and has never caused a problem for me.
It also has the Real Alternative, Quicktime Alternative and Media Player classic. These players (actuall they are all Media Player Classic with support for Realplayer, etc built in) don't have to be installed if you don't want to. You can just install the codecs.
