I've downloaded MSN Messenger 7.5 Setup Wizard. Spy Sweeper now gives me the option to Keep or Delete "wextract_cleanup0. "

When I do a "Search" for wextract... I see many queries/titles about whether it's good or not but don't find any answers.

Does anybody know for sure if I should Keep or Delete it? Any help will be most greatfully appreciated.

    Hi Granny.

That is a Microsoft file that is used to get other files out of .cab files.
It is more or less an uncompressor program that Microsoft uses and is
a nothing file. You can do whatever. Doesn't matter.

    Hi.

    You're quite welcome.

One of the problems with these adware/spyware programs is that in order to compete with another adware/spyware program they have to find stuff. If they don't find stuff then nobody will buy or use the program. This results in listing stuff that isn't really a problem. Most of the things they list are normal things installed by Windows. If an entry in the registry or a bookmark or a file downloaded while visiting a web page isn't needed then they list it so the users can be impressed with all the stuff they found. Out of 200 things they may list it's doubtful if 1 or 2 need to be deleted. Of course there is always the many that did have actual adware/spyware stuff mixed up with the other listing of 200 so you have to kick it all out to be safe. One time a registry entry was listed that had to do with networking with another computer under certain conditions. A lot of people deleted it along with the other things listed for deletion and all of a sudden a lot of networks wouldn't work. It took awhile to get everything back to normal and the particular registry entry was quietly removed from the adware/spyware programs find list and a new version of the main program was released.

You're keeping an eye on things and getting the job done. That's what counts.
