I was unable to open Task manager using ctrl alt delete and found another programme was using it! I used the free online Panda scan and i found a lot of ccopies of the same virus on my PC. See the thread below for the full details. http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?p=278873#post278873

I would really appreciate if someone in the know can tell me if the problem is sorted now (task manager works now). Thanks very much.

    Hi nobbie,

May just be some leftovers here.

Do you recognize this prog in red? If not, fix those entries in HJT and remove the folder in Application Data

If not part of the Salfeld Personal Security Manager, the file may have already been removed (it's not running as a process). Fix the entry.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winlog] winlog.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [winlog] winlog.exe
    A couple of possibilities.

Another to remove if unfamiliar with it.

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [soapmeal] C:\DOCUME~1\ROBBIE~1\APPLIC~1\GRAMMO~1\HOLE DOG REF.exe
