Spellcheck doesn't underline misspelt words in Word 97

Does anyone know how to fix this? As a stab in the dark, I tried renaming the normal.dot file and relaunching Word, to no avail. I don't see any options that I can use under Templates and Add-Ins.

In Word, go to Tools>Options>Spelling and Grammar tab and check the options you want. Click OK to save the changes.

If "Check spelling as you type" is already checked, uncheck it, click OK, close Word, reopen Word, go back and re-check it and see if that will jog Word back into doing what you want.

 

Thanks. But that was the very first thing I attempted, but all of those options are greyed out!
