    Here it is

I have 3 machine on Network.
    The network setup is :
DSL Modem >> D-Link Router >> Four Ports
(one to Win XP Home, another to WIN XP PRO & third one to WIN Server 2003 Standard Edition)

On Win XP Home >> it cant ping localhost and it can also ping the WIN Server 2003 IP address. But it cannot ping Win XP Pro.

On Win Server 2003 >> it can ping itself and it can also ping the Win XP Home. But it cannot ping. But it cannot ping Win XP Pro.

On Win XP Pro >> it can ping itself and also to both machines too, namely, Win XP Home and Win Server 2003

I tried pinging using Hostname as well as IP address, but no luck.

Any help as to what is the reason for, why i am not able to ping Win XP Pro machine from Win XP Home and Win Server 2003.

I will be glad if anyone has experienced similar such problem and also what solution did they applied.

    thx
    sidsmart

Check your firewall settings on WinXP Pro machine. Enable ICMP (echo reply) settings.

I have checked the Firewall setting and also ensured that the "Allow Incoming echo request" under ICMP is enabled.

I am a newbie in networking, so dont have much of a direction on this.

Though i am connected to internet, i see "Internet Connection Disable" under Internet Gateway, which i find very strange.

Does this has anything to do with the problem, pinging to the IP of the XP Pro machine from other comp.

The local area connection >> TCP/IP settings is configured to obtain IP address automatically and DNS server address automatically.

Does the blocking of certain ports like , port 139, 445 can be a issue?
If yes, then how do i ensure that the ports are enabled and open.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

    thx
    Deepak

Which firewall are you using? Disable it & then try ping.
