My daughter has a Toshiba satellite 2435-S255 laptop. She just purchased a universal AC power adapter that should be able to work on that laptop. I know the power requirement for the laptop is 19 Volts and 90 Watts, but what polarity should she set the power adapter to?

I can not put a meter on the laptop to measure this for myself because she and the laptop are on the west coast and I am on the east coast. The original Toshiba AC adapter part number is PA3165-1ACA. It looks like the Toshiba AC adapter will work for all models of the Toshiba Satellite product line.

Where can I find the proper voltage polarity to set the universal AC adapter to? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The output is normally shown on the adapter. Just check out the original adapter.

    Thanks

Thank you for the suggestion. I wish it was that easy.
My daughter does not live with me. She left her AC adapter at her home, took her laptop on a trip, without the AC adapter. Then she went out and purchased a new universal AC power adapter to use until she gets back home.

I can not look at the original adapter because it is sitting in her house, not my house, which is not even in the same state as I am. So, I can not look at or meter the laptop or either the original or universal AC adapter.

Is there some place on the web where I might find the hardware reference manual for that laptop or a web site that would list the correct polarity for various AC power adapters?

    Thank you, Gordon

Perhaps if she could take the laptop & the adapter to a local Toshiba shop, they would be able to help.

    Gordon,

Don't know if this will help you or not. Information from the Toshiba website: Power Adapter. This is the closest I could find for what you originally mentioned.

Thank you both for the assistance. My daughter emailed that she made a wild guess on setting the adapter polarity and it is charging the laptop battery. Call her lucky. :D
She did not say which polarity she picked so now I will just wait until she comes by here with the laptop and the adapter. Then I can put a meter on it and verify the voltage and polarity.

    Thanks for the help.
