just added a new computer to my peer-to-peer network (all winxp pro or home). The weird thing is I can share some of the files, but cannot share the files on the "C" drive even tho I have enabled file sharing and run the network disk. I can, however, access my outlook.pst file which is in C: my documents on the unsharing computer.

So ... I can access an accessory drive (Drive L), and I can access one file from c: my documents ... but when I try to access another word or access file from c: my documents, it tells me the file isn't accessible and that i should contact my administrator to find out if i have access permissions.

I'm the administrator and all computers are on the network. This one really has me puzzled. The share hand is where it should be and the files show up in the other computers. I have disabled windows firewall in the unsharing computer and also took off aol's spy program thinking that might be blocking access. Nothing seems to work. What could it be?

Outlook is accessing the My Documents folder through it's personal folders path ... yet I can't access the other documents.

    please help

    Thanks

    Wiry

You have to explicitly share 'My Documents' on each computer.

I did. Hand is cradling My Documents on ALL COMPUTERS.

I am on my laptop now and I can see all the shared files but can't access them. This same laptop can access the Outlook file which is located in My Documents on the computer that won't/can't share. Go figure. What could it be??????

i don't think xp home edition has simple file sharing. After reading another post I went to file options, view and scrolled down looking for it ... it wasn't there.

XP Pro has it, XP Home doesn't.

Right. Here are some other things I've done. My old computer that this one replaced was called the same name. So I thought that might be the problem so I changed the name of my new computer and the description and ran the network wizard again. Still the same problem.

It's very interesting. When I create a new Outlook personal file to use the data in the unsharing computer (which is located in my documents) it finds it and uses it. But when I try to access the C Drive documents it says I don't have permission. I am administrator on both computers. The unsharing computer has this problem with all the other computers. It will share a drive that is on the usb port and it will let me access all the files on that drive. But no go on the main drive. My Documents is shared. File sharing is enabled. What could it be?

just another point ... all the computers on the network have passwords.
And, on the two computers that I'm trying to make work together, i use the same user name and the same password.

    What else can I do?

Discovered where the problem is, but not how to solve it. It won't share the only primary user on the computer (me.) When I share the "c" drive, it will open everything except my user documents. Any suggestions? How do I fix this? The user is shared on the C drive.

    Thanks

Thought I would write and tell the resolution of this since it was very helpful to me. I contacted HP support and finally got a supervisor who determined that my admin/user file was corrupted. He moved my admin documents onto the c: drive and then we shared the file. I could then access it on all the other computers and since there is only one user on the computer it doesn't matter where the documents are. It was a very creative solution and one that didn't require that I completely restore everything. Hope this helps if you have the same problem.
