    In Thunderbird 1.5, how can I add a column to display the number of messages in each folder (Inbox, Drafts, Templates, Sent, etc)? Netscape had a column like this, and I found it very useful.

    On top of the mail list you should have a Name heading, and a small icon on the upper right. When you click on that you will have a dropdown which gives you three choices. I selected total and size. That you will give the number of e-mails in each folder, and the total size. Similarly you can have a number of choice on the mail header's part. You have to use reason not to expect to see everything. You may have to move the header options to make them readable, or the account list, so that you see everything (get hold of the dividing lines, with your mouse, move and let go).

    I don't have a 'Name' heading. I do have a drop-down on the right pane, but there are 16 choices there, so I don't think that is what you are talking about. At the top of the left pane, where Inbox, Drafts, Templates, etc. are, there is no drop-down. I tried maximizing the window and dragging the left pane very wide to see if any more columns were there, but there are no columns or drop-downs.

    My screen looks like the fourth screen shot down on this page:

    I would like to find a drop-down between the word "Folders" and the word "View" to display the total number of messages in each folder. It does display the number of unread messages in a folder, but I want it to display the total number of messages too.

    Any more ideas? Thanks.

    Try:
    Tools->options->advanced->general
    [x] Show expanded columns in the folder pane

    HTH

    Someone must have change the settings, because, indeed, if I uncheck the box, the heading changes from Name, and all the customization to folders. I never made any changes, so those must have been default settings.
    But, thanks Capt., I would have never known. Why would anyone want that?
    I can't see any practical use.
