To tell you the truth, if you don't have to buy TFT monitor, don't buy it...
If you don't got a space problem, get a good old CRT monitor,
Which it's quality is far more better than TFT or LCD monitors.

But, if you goona buy a TFT anyway, mind these matters:
    - response time: 8-12 ms should be great.
    - max. resolution: 17" 1280*1024 and 19" 1600*1200 is also good standard
    - clarity: 250 cd/m^2 is fairly good
    - dot pitch (actual pixel size): 0.26mm is kinda nice

If you get all these than you got yourself a pretty heisty TFT monitor.

I can't really add much except that I hear Samsung produces some incredible TFT monitors. Viewsonic too.

I can't use TFTs because I do a load of photo-editing for my online store and color reproduction is superior on a CRT than a TFT. I've also seen them being used in gaming and a 30ms response time yielded some serious smearing. I hear that's just about a thing of the past though with very low response times coming out.

I hope they continue to make CRTs long enough to bridge the gap to the next step beyond TFTs. I hear it's going to be pretty awesome.

But if you don't have any "special needs" like I do, TFTs are nice in that they are so space-saving.

I'm very happy with my 2 Samsung SyncMaster 930BF's :D

    http://www.samsung.com/Products/Monitor/LCD_Digital/LS19BIDKBVXAA.asp

Note that they list response time as Gray-to-Gray, which I think is a SCAM, but I found that this monitor has a "normal" response of 8ms (can't locate it right now)

Thank you all for your replies. Actually, it's time to replace my old crt monitor, that's why i was thinking to buy a tft screen. However, after reading your advices I will keep in mind your tips, and still have to decide whether to go for a crt or for a tft :)

    Thanks
