thanks for that info. not a gamer so that doesnt into play on this machine. its my work machine so heavy downloading for clients and business purposes. does not have pci-e nor sata so those dont come into play either. other machine has those things.

question how can the psu fry the graphics ????????

i do like the ocz but boy they are pricey. i like the all cable being wrapped.

eg495p is more expensive than the eg565p - why would that be when the less expensive one has more wattage ??????

Any PSU can "fry" anything inside a computer IF any of the regulated voltage rails suddenly increase their normal regulated value.
Most all well designed PSU's will have sufficient clamping built in so dangerous surges will not affect its receipient component.

Wow, this is turning into a story! Yeah, I forgot that Seasonic has a very good rep for PSUs. And yeah, a malfunctioning PSU can not only "spike" your components, it could probably set your whole rig on fire!

One thing I do when trying to make a decision is to read the testimonials at Newegg. They help alot. I've noticed that with PSUs, you either get one that works and you never think much more about it or, you get one that malfunctions quickly. There seems to be a disproportionate number of "bad" stories in the Newegg PSU reviews - even on the "good" PSUs.

If you're not feeling daring, I'd say simply go with an Antec TruPower. Chances are you'll be fine with it and it will be a good decision - at least one that no one could second-guess you on.

One last thing. I wouldn't get hung up on PSU fans. I don't consider them in the equation of cooling my case. I have a big 120mm in my PSU, it glows blue...it's pretty...nuf said.

And one more last thing, I think everyone should have a PSU tester in their "arsenal ". It's about $10-12 and lets you know if your PSU is malfunctioning. Critical for PC troubleshooting.

Good point you make about the PSU tester Gary.
I forgot to touch on that subject, my bad
Here is the one I use here:

    http://www.frozencpu.com/psu-165.html

This thing will test anything coming out of your PSU.
It will test both the 20 pin and the newer 24 pin main power sockets,
SATA power connectors, floppy power, 4 pin +12VDC, 6 pin video card and 4 pin Molex connectors.

I agree with your choice, Daddad. If I needed a new PSU tester, that'd be the one I'd get.
