I just purchased a Dell Inspiron 9300 and when I run the machine on battery and wireless the screen is very dark. Any ideas on how I can brighten things up? I have attempted to change the accelerator for contract to brighter but to no avail. Thanks for any advice.

Is it saving battery power ?

Never had a portable. But my thinking says they may run it darker to preserve the battery power or else you batteries may be low in power and not fully charged.. But as it is under warranty a quick call to Dell should solve the problem for you.

The darker screen on battery power is usually by design to conserve power, but I do recall on a Dell laptop I set up for a friend recently that there were options for adjusting this under Power Options or Battery Power - that's as close as I can get for you :)

Hold down the "fn" key and press the up arrow. It will brighten slightly but being that your running on battery the screen will always appear dark.
