I have noticed lately that even though I have my screen saver (standard Windows XP screen saver) set to 10 minutes it usually does not switch to screen saver even after not using the PC for 2 hours! I have ZoneAlarm and AVG running in the background (as many other also would) but I would not have thought that this would prevent the screen saver from starting up.
What could be causing the screen saver NOT to work?

    Thanks PeteC
I have (now) tried what you suggested but there is nothing there which solves the problem (ie I DO have XP service pack 2 installed AND there is only ONE user who users my PC).

Why not just go to Control Panel and Power Options and on the Monitor, choose 10 minutes to shut down. The screen saver option uses more system resources then the shut down option does. I know that XP manages system resources better then earlier versions of Windows did. I like to have all the resources that I can get.

test = create a new user account. log on to it. set SS to 2 mins and test it.

if it works, there's something in u'r profile that's the cause. check u'r startup stuff w/ mike lin's control panel or the like.
