I cannot get my eTrust EZ Antivirus to update. I update manually as I am on dial-up. Since last night (Feb.1) when it tried to d/l a 3.8 MB update and failed due to very slow d/l speeds I cannot even get it to connect to the ftp server now.

Is anyone else with EZ Antivirus having the same problem? Symptoms are like the server is overloaded or very busy so maybe will just have to be patient.

I have sent eTrust support a note but got only the automated "non-reponse" so far.

    Any comments appreciated.

    Nevermind!!

Just tried the update and guess what? it worked, says my product is up to date. Curious since it started working about 15 minutes after I sent eTrust the note.

Have to see if it updates OK next time there is one available.

    JohnB,
You're right. I also have been trying to update the A/V, with two different machines. One of my Computer Club Gurus states that this has been happening a lot more lately.
I went on line about 6:10 EST and I could see the auto update was working at that time.

Hi irdreed, I hope this isn't the start of a pattern. I just recently switched to eTrust from Norton AV 2004 and have been quite pleased with it. Quick updates, low impact on machine resources and so far seems to have picked up any viruses that have come down the tube.

Dumped Norton because of endless problems with LiveUpdate, having to re-install everytime something went wrong, huge virus def. downloads and being unable to get the e-mail protection activated, etc. Finally gave up on Norton, totally uninstalled and went to EZ Antivirus.

I will post back next time an update comes along just to confirm it goes okay (or not).:)

lol... if Charles is reading this, he's going to fall off his chair laughing. I (yes, Charles... "I ") actually uninstalled AVG to "try" EZ Antivirus and was rather happy with if for a week. Then last night not only would it NOT update, it actually shut down. I could not for the life of me get it to start up. I uninstalled and reinstalled but to no avail. Well... you can't do much these days without an AV program running, so EZ Trust was unceremoniously dumped and AVG gladly replaced. All is now well again. I wish you EZ Trusters well but I'm a little gun-shy of it now.

    Hi
I also got the warning that update failed. but then when I did a manual update it went right through.
Just wonder if it had something to do with an update for this.....

I "was" a McAfee fan for years, so one small glitch with eTrust is nothing for me to stress over after years of McAfee:eek:

OK Charles, you can pick yourself up off the floor and brush yourself off now...
BTW, If eTrust is good enough for noahdfear and recommended by him, then I think I will trust it.

Found and fixed the problem [I hope]

The updating problem occured again tonight.

Well, after searching through CA's website I think I found the problem. There was a mismatch of the engine and virus defs due to a software update for all versions to Version 7r. See this link http://www.my-etrust.com/Support/TechSupport.aspx and click on the "click here" within the red printing then on the next page again click on the link with in the red printing. This will take you to a page where you can select a upgrade download for your version of EZ Antivirus. Download and install the updated version, this should fix the mismatch problem any updating problems you are having.

Follow the update/install instructions, DO NOT uninstall your existing version, see note in Step 2 of instructions.

You can skip the virus scan step of the install process if you wish and reboot to complete the installation.

    Good luck!! :D

Well... that's interesting. What I found particularly strange (and evidently I was the only one affected in this manner) was that my EZ Trust not only would not update BUT it in fact shut down. I could not get it to scan my files nor could I get it to run in the background. I didn't fancy surfing the web without some sort of protection and that is essentially why I finally dumped it. I'm glad you other users didn't have my particular problem. Best wishes to you.
