Recently I have been having a problem with my Netscape 7.2 email in that when I try to download mail from my server, I get one spam type email first from a Branch Banking and Trust dated 2004 and then can not load the additional messages from my server. When I try again, I get the "This Folder is being processed, please wait until processing is complete to get messages ". When I delete this first email and then close/restart netscape, I get the same email again and the same error message following. I did notice the other thread on this subject (http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/folderprocess.html) and did delete the files in Mozilla with the MSF extensions, but this did not help. I contacted my ISP, but they are telling me my email account is fine and that its the Netscape application that is causing the problems (I tend to believe them as I can get my email from the web based application and can not see that spam Branch Banking email with the web based application. Any ideas of how to fix this annoying problem? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    Welcome to the Forum, tpascen1!

    tpascen1,

Once you delete the 2004 message, then "Compact" the folder. Close Netscape, reopen and see if the message is reloaded.

Without compacting folders, the message remains on the HDD, and isn't permanently removed. See this Solutions Page: Preventive Browser Maintenance.

Let us know if you continue to have problems...

Hello Ramona, Thanks for the suggestion. I did try to compact my folders but instead got the following message "the folder inbox can not be compacted because another operation is in progress. Please try again later ". Does this seem to point out a problem? Regards, Tom

    tpascen1,

That error is usually generated when your Mail server is trying to download Mail at the same time you are compacting your Inbox. Restart Netscape, and then try compacting the Inbox again. Let us know if you need further help...

Hi again, yes I have tried many times to restart and still get the same message. Everytime I restart, the mail application starts looking for new mail, then states there are 20 or so new messages but only outputs the one bank message then seems to hang up.

    tpascen1,

Do you have a large Inbox? If so, this can be hindering the download of your Mail. The fact that this one Mail keeps trying to download, even though deleted, Inbox compacted, and not on the Server, that still makes me very suspicious that it is still on the server. I would talk to another Service Tech. and see if you get a different answer.

    Try this also:
Turn off your Firewall Mail scanner
If this fixes the problem, then you may need to change your Firewall setting.

If no joy, then turn off your AV mail scanning. As long as you have auto protect enabled, it isn't necessary to scan email.
    Does this fix the problem?

    If still no joy:
    Close Netscape
    Rename the Inbox to XInbox
    Delete: Inbox.msf

Start Netscape Mail & Newsgroups - what happens?

    Hello Ramona,

    Thanks for your continued support.
    My inbox is quite small since I have limited space on my ISP server. I make sure to clear it out on a regular basis. So according to your suggestions;

I tried turning off the firewall scanning.....no joy
I tried turning off the AV scanning.....no joy
I tried deleting the inbox.msf file and changing the Inbox to XInbox......Joy!:D

Wow, so that was the deal. Can you explain what exactly you think the problem was? I am curious.

    Regards,

    Tom

    tpascen1,

Since you had already deleted the Inbox.msf file and nothing changed, then the conclusion is that your Inbox was corrupt. Starting with a pristine Inbox cleared the problem.
