Well, I use firefox as my main browser and Mozilla 1.7.11 for e-mails and a
    backup browser.

    Works well for me.

Hi all I was pleasingly surprised that all went well with automatic update! No trouble on this end

I did a clean install of 1.5.0.1 and it comes up as FF 1.5 in my Add/Remove window. I am running XP Pro SP2 and this new version is blazing fast! :D

So far, it appears that a "clean install' lists Firefox's Version in Add/Remove as Mozilla Firefox 1.5. The auto update lists the version as Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1.

Would like to hear from more users on the type of install, and the Version which is listed in Add/Remove...

This is all which is necessary to know. Method of installation, and what version is listed in the Add/Remove ( and, of course, also, the Help|About Firefox id).

    Like captjlddavis, I also report:

CLEAN INSTALL of FF 1.5.0.1rc1 from the offline install file link Ramona provided above.
    Filename: Firefox Setup 1.5.0.1rc1.exe

    Firefox Setup 1.5.0.1rc1.exe Properties:
    Version: 3.12.0.0
Internal Name / Original File name: 7zS.sfx

Installed to C:\ drive (after uninstall of FF 1.5 via Add/Remove Programs and reboot).

    Add/Remove now shows:
    Mozilla Firefox (1.5)

Program ID (via Help > About Mozilla Firefox) now shows:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1

After realizing there is a v1.5.0.1 (instead of v1.5.0.1rc1) install file, I downloaded 1.5.0.1. from ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5.0.1/win32/en-US/.

    I performed MD5 and SHA-1 hashes on the v1.5.0.1rc1 firefox.exe file before uninstalling rc1.

Then, after uninstalling rc1 and rebooting, I installed the 1.5.0.1 version and performed MD5 and SHA-1 hashes on the newly installed v1.5.0.1 firefox.exe file.

Both firefox.exe files produced the same hashes:

    MD5: DC7051841F2F67410524B2EEC25A1755
    SHA-1: 9E9C2BF50CD2E099D1E1D5B947B355E6713D1CF3

Both install files are the same size too: 5,175,696 bytes

Therefore, it appears it doesn't matter whether one downloads the Firefox Setup 1.5.0.1rc1.exe install file from
    ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5.0.1rc1/win32/en-US/
or the official Firefox Setup 1.5.0.1.exe install file from
    ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5.0.1/win32/en-US/

Incidentally, the version info in the Add/Remove Programs and via FF's Help > About yield the same information as in my post immediately above this post.
