Via USB I have been able to transfer the address book from my desktop to my laptop.

Could you please advise how I am able to do likewise with the folders I have created under local folders.

    Thanking you

I do this on a regular basis ....

The simplest way to save drilling down through Windows Explorer via Documents and Settings is to make a folder on both the desktop and the laptop called, say Emails or anything you like.

On the desktop search for *.dbx files (the location is shown in OE under Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder - each dbx file is one of your folders) and copy them to the new folder Emails. Then go to Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder and set the Store Folder to the new location Emails - the folder into which you have just copied the *.dbx files. OE will ask if you want to use that folder, etc > Yes.

On the laptop create a folder of the same name Emails and point OE to it as the Store Folder as above. Copy the contents of the Email folder on the desktop into the Email folder on the laptop. The laptop will then have the same emails as the desktop.

    Scenario ...

You are going away with the laptop and want to take current emails with you - copy the contents of the Email folder on the desktop to the Email folder on the laptop, overwriting the files already there.

While away you use OE to send and receive emails.

When you return home copy the contents of the Email folder on the laptop to the Email folder on the desktop, overwriting the files already there. The desktop then has the same emails as the laptop.

I never had much success using a USB transfer cable which may be what you are using.

I simply copy the Email folder from the desktop to a pen drive or external hard drive and from there to the laptop, overwriting what is already on the laptop. Works every time :)
What sort of trouble? Error messages??

    USB Flash Disk.

I have the folders 30+ in all loaded into a folder on my Laptop C:drive.

    1. How do I open to read a dbx file?
    2. How do I transfer these 30+ dbx folders into OE under Local folders.

I do not know the answer to both these questions.

    Thanking you

In Outlook Express - on the laptop have you set the new folder Email as the default message store for OE?
    .
Once you have copied the 30+ .dbx files into the Email folder you created on the laptop and set up that folder to be the Message Store as in the quote above open up OE and you will see the folder tree in the LH pane as usual.

    Pete,
thanks for your perserverance with an elderly ole fella.

oversight on my part. I had a folder within a folder and didn't get into the inner one until i read your latest response.

The folder tree though only brought up about 6 % 36 so don't know whats wrong there.

I'm off to bed now will look in in the morning.

    Thanks

    OK - sleep well :)

I'm away for a few days starting Sunday and will only be checking the BBS in the evening - your morning, so please be patient if you have further problems.
