A question came up at another forum, which has baffled everyone. A fellow is using the notify.exe function to warn him of mail on the server. He uses it, primarily, to get rid of spam. The function worked until he changed to Verizon.
He gets and sends his mail, but the flag does not come up.
I was not aware that one could be notified of mail still on server, may be IMAP mail. Anyone knows how notify.exe works? I think that there is some misunderstanding, or Verizon is pulling a fast one. Any idea?

    Westside,

What is NSnotify (Netscape Mail Notification) and how should I use it?

The following icons and animations may be displayed:

"¢ Plain white envelope. This indicates that NSnotify has checked the server for new mail and no new mail has been found.

"¢ White envelope with red flag waving. This indicates that NSnotify has checked the server for new mail and new mail was found.

    Ramona,
thanks for the link. There is, actually, a red X, indicating that, most likely, Verizon, does not allow notify to check the server.

    Westside,

Either that or perhaps his Firewall might be blocking the program?

    Ramona,
there is always some weird explanation for every two or three reasonable ones. I was not aware that the server was being checked, and I had suggested him that it would not work with a POP account, but would work with an IMAP account. So, he proceeded to set it as an IMAP account (apparently you can do it either way, or something), and the flag started to fly. Then, he changed back to the original settings, i.e. POP mail, and it is working.
May be the thing was stuck.
