I'm working on a Dell Latitude lap-top. Running Win XP Pro / SP3 and all the latest MS updates as of the date of this posting.
When I boot up it is taking over 4 minutes & my desktop will take another 1 -2 minutes to refresh before all my icons will appear. I've checked my event viewer and noticed a UPHClean entry that stated:

Mydomain/myname, have been remapped because it was preventing the profile from unloading successfully.
    svchost.exe (888)
    HKCU (0x386)

Now everytime I attempt to open a file my system "hangs" & I'll get a blank white screen for several minutes before anything opens. I went to the MS KB site to find the help for this error and it took me to a download that claims to correct this problem. I downloaded a UPHClean file and ran it, however, that did nothing to correct the problem.

I also get "User profile hive cleanup service version 1.6.30.0 started sucecessfully.

What is this and how do I correct it? If I log onto another computer in my domain, I do not have any problems.

It seems that you are on a domain and some settings have been corrupted. Remove your laptop from the domain. (Copy your data before doing this). Now rejoin the domain & see if the problem persists. (You would need Administrator priviledge on your laptop and Administrator password for domain to do this).

This may sound dumb, but any idea of which settings are corrupt? You say to copy my data ?? my user profile ? confused.

Some setting on laptop may be corrupt as you can logon from other computer - so user profile is most probably ok.
You need not backup your user profile - just the data (including My Documents, emails, address book).

OK, I copied my user profile to a network file. then deleted my profile on the lap-top. disconnected the lap-top from the domain. Logged on locally, as admin, changed the computer name. Deleted my old computer name from my DC, DNS & DHCP.
I then logged on locally, joined my domain under the new computer name. So far, so good, re-booted. Logged in a Domain Admin, everything went smooth. Checked my Docs & settings folder, only Domain Admin & local admin users. I no longer existed on the computer.

I then logged in as myself, after 10 minutes of "loading settings" the system re-booted itself.
I re-logged in, guess what. ALL my previous settings / desktop / shortcuts / Local & Network places, recent files & Outlook all came up as if I never left.

    What went wrong?

You may be using roaming profile. When you login to the domain for the first time, a profile is created for you on the domain server and a copy is placed in the computer. During the session, all changes are made to the local copy and are written to server only when you log off. During subsequent logging on, the server copy is copied over the local copy and only then you can log on. There seems to be some problem with your server profile. Try logging as yourself from some other computer.

I just came accross something while checking my AD. My user profile as well as about 15 of my 70 other user profiles that were created by the former system admin, (who's longer here) show under the "Profile" tab:

    Profile Path = (blank),
    Logon Script = "username.bat "

However on my user profile I have
Profile path = "my user name "
    Logon Script = myname.bat

The 15 of us are the only remainnig employees since I upgraded our DC from Win NT to a Win 2000 Server. So he may have created ".bat" scripts for us. All other users were hired & created after the DC upgrade.

My Profile Path is the only user to have a name in the path. Did he set me up with a roamming profile? When I log into another computer, I get the basic generic window screen, not what is on this desktop.

You have a roaming profile but its odd that you get error only when you log thru your laptop - seems to be some kind of connectivity problem. Can you just plug in your laptop into some other LAN cable (if you are on a wired network) or change your position (if on wireless) ?

Thanks for the help everyone. I run symantec 24/7, and I use spybot which also runs 24/7 and a full scan every other night. Nothing has come up on either, and the virus is UTD & connected thru my server.

After my profile loaded the other day, the system "hung ". I've moved it to 3 different stations, and it ran fine. I brought it back to this jack, which also has 2 other computers running off of it's hub. Now my system runs OK. I have not changed my user profile to not roamming yet, or changed any other settings. When I close programs my desktop refresh rate is almost back to what it was before all this started. Every now & then I will get a flicker from an icon, but the system has not "hung ". I still have a copy of my profile stored from 2 days ago. I guess I could just delete it since it's on this system, and I'm not going to be roamming.

    Any thoughts?

Well, maybe I spoke too soon. Yesterday it was OK, today I back to what it was. I've re-booted, tried a different connections, and No luck. I'm "hanging" again.
