While booting up. windows shows a ghost screen and the computer locks up. It doesn't even get to member log in. I have to shut the power off and bring it backup in safe mode and only in the advanced users profile. nothing else works.

My ghost screen is like a fadded picture. It says windows and usually it will go away then come back and go to member log in but now it comes in as a fadded picture and locks up.

Gvyer, you are confusing this place - its not instant messaging but forum. You may or may not get answers to your question quickly, but don't despair somewhere, someone is reading them and trying to help you out.

Regarding your problem, did you make any changes in hardware or installed/unistalled any program?

Gvyer, if you have a backup of your data, just reformat and reinstall Windows.

Formatting and reinstalling windows isn't always just that simple. It can be a major hassle depending on a lot of different things. It may come to that but I think it's bit early for that.

It is kind of hard to understand just exactly what you're talking about. It sounds as though you're talking about the windows welcome screen but that shouldn't fade away like you say. Have you by any chance used a program like Window Blinds or something similar to change it?

If you can get into safemode, boot to it and click start>run and type msconfig. Click on the startup tab and uncheck everything in there except for your firewall if there's one listed there. Then reboot the computer and see if it will boot to windows normally. If it does, then go back into msconfig>startup tab and put a checkmark next to a few of the items, reboot and see if it makes it back into windows again. If it does, re-check a few more of the items and restart again. If it doesn't boot to windows after re-checking some, boot to safemode and remove the checkmark from a one or two of the last ones to get re-checked. Then reboot. It's a trial and error thing until you find the one that's causing it.

Agreed its not that simple, but as compared to seeking answer to a 'ghost screen' its much simpler and cost/time effective.

    ghost screen

thanks guys. so far it's working. It will take a while though because it seems like after my computer reboots and comes up normal i can reboot as many times as i want. but when I leave it over night and try to boot up "after completely shutting down" is when it messes up. so this will take days to figure out. Thanks again.
