I have three xp boxes on my network (sp1 home ed) each with shared folders.

My workstation can view my shares through network neighborhood, and the shares on the other two xp machines. The other 2 machines can view each other's shares and their own. But they can't view the shares on my machine.

    Here's the error box text:

    -------------------------

\\Nosoup4u is not accessible. You night not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

    --------------------------

    Where have I gone wrong?

Sounds like it may be a firewall setting....double check your settings.

    Good luck.

I should've addressed that before. I don't run any firewalls on the XP boxes because my gateway is running Linux and that seems to do the trick for me.

So MS internet connection firewall is disabled on all 3 xp boxes and none of the machines are running any other firewall or AV software. AFAIK they are all set up pretty much identically for file sharing, yet the one machine won't share with the others, while the other two will.

Also the computer can be found on the network by the other two. Not sure where to look next.

    Marty,

To me it could be a couple of things, However lets try to go from easiest to hardest. First ensure that the account you are using on the system you are trying to access nosoup4u is also found on \\nosoup4u. The account name and pw should be the same and it should have rights to see access it. Although it sees it it may be only a local user or guest. What it may require is that you become a administrator for that system.

If you want to do that make sure you know an administrative account for each system if they already don't share one. Right Click My Computer-> Select Manage ->Local Users and Groups -> Groups -> Administrators -> double click that (name) in there should list all the administratives for that machine if the account name you want to use to access the machine and do adjustments to that system is not there add it otherwise check the other system.

    That worked Tim, thanks.

Does this mean that I can only use shares between XP machines when on identical account names & passwords?

On the other hand, now the connection's being refused from that new account having the same id/pw as on the other machine. What could be going on?
