:( I hope I am not posting twice but I couldn't find the one I did last night because I don't think I was properly registered so here goes again.

I really need someone to help me with this. Anyone that does will have my undying gratitude. My problem is that I've lost my D drive, cdrom can't run and I have a cd stuck in there. I'm not as concerned as the cd stuck in there as not having my d drive. I don't have have program disk so I have to get in there and fix the problem. This is what I see when I turn the computer on.

When it goes to windows, since there is a CD stuck in there I assume I'm getting the message that CD can't play and that there is no CD rom attached to this computer. I really can't afford to take it to a shop so if anyone can tell me what to do, I'd really appreciate it.

Look for a tiny hole on the face of the CD drive. Straighten a paper clip out and insert it into the hole. Push the paper clip in and the CD drive tray should open. Take the CD out and reboot. Look at the CD drive during bootup and see if the light flashes on the drive.

I have a message on start up that Sec Master Drive ATAPI Incompatible. Can someone tell me how to find out what's incompatible, how to correct it and if it has anything to do with d drive cdrom that is now gone? Thanks so much, Tina:confused:

Check the connections to the drive. Pull them then push them back on. Sometimes they become loose or dirty. If the drive still isn't recognized in the bios try a new IDE cable.

    You're so nice!

Thank you Whiskey Man. Um, can you tell me where those cables are? I'm sorry but I'm a bit better with certain simple program things, I can usually fix my little glitches but I am stumped here. Do I need to remove the cover of the Box thingy? I assume so, but I'll wait till you answer because I don't want to mess it up? Thanks again, Tina.

    It's fixed

Thanks everyone for your help. Whiskeyman I think you were right about the cables and that. I did wiggle the actual cd rom around a bit and blew out some dirt but I also went to a web site and downloaded some new cd drives and fixed the ATAPI file as well but I don't know for sure what I did to do it. Thanks again!:)
