I have a desktop PC connected to an ADSL modem.
The Modem is a D-Link DSL 302G which can be connected via an ethernet or usb connection.
Currently this modem is connected to my desktop PC via ethernet connection.

Having recently purchased a HP DV1000 laptop with both ethernet and usb connections am I able to connect both PCs simultaneously to the internet via the modem mentioned above. One via ethernet connection and the other via USB????????????????????????

    Thanks

This is not a ISP issue, does your router have a NAT option in the settings ?

    Paul,
In the link.....that was a bit of a pun I thought, you provided, to me it indicates that the MODEM should serve 2 computers.

    I have no router.

Alernatively the link indicates to me that the modem can serve several computers with a wireless router.

As I only need to serve 2 computers the USB and ETHERNT connectors should as I understand it, provide that option.

It appears that that modem has a built in network bridge that bridges the ethernet & usb connection. It has no nat or switch. It is not a router. But it does have some router functionality such as port forwarding. It is sort of a mini-router. I would not use the www with this modem unless I had a full router w/ built in firewall connected to it.

I have used this modem for a couple of years now...no problems.
I also use ZA and Avast for protection.

I find your "sig" rather interesting....If it is not true for you, it isn't true. My wife believes that also but is not a scientologist.
I checked in on your LRH link and was mystified by the opening statement below.

The Scientology religion comprises a body of knowledge extending from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these:

Man is an immortal, spiritual being. His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime.

What I don't understand here is that other than just beleieving this for convenience sake how is this statement of presumed fact established as truth after all people previously believed the world was flat and perhaps many still do but other "indisputable" criteria is in conflict with those "beliefs "
and suggests that the world is round.
Fair enough for self to believe whatever we want but does that make it true....maybe only true to the one that thinks that way.
I worked with a guy once who was not sure whether we were really there based on his belief that perhaps we were only believing we were.
I suggested he hit himself with a hammer to find out but he continued to present his view that he might not truly feel pain but only imagined it.
My next suggestion was that for me to steal his possessions and just let him imagine it.

The following paragraph on that page contains the answer to your question:
Realize, that a truth is nothing more than a consideration, something that one believes in or believes is real. A truth, all by itself can do nothing, has no power, etc. It's just a datum upon which other data are built. "What goes up must come down" is a fundamental truth, per Newton. But it is not necessisarly workable all of the time, but it sure is practical! The value of any truth is: can it be applied to something and get a desired result? The truth above that you have quoted in bold happens to be a truth that is used by the majority of all religions on earth. Is it true for all people on earth? No, but personally I suspect that those whom it is not true for may come to know a bit more about it than I do at death!

Anyway, I do not wish to discuss such a topic here in this forum, but am more than happy to discuss anything on any subject in an appropriate forum, such as private message or email or phone, etc. Personally, I have always belived that there must be more to life than random chemical reactions & organized matter. I've been a Scientologist most of my life and happen to dig that quote I use in my signature because we all (self included) sometimes, in helping others at these forums, make the mistake of coming across "too forceful" or "know it all" in our approach.

I hope I did not do that when I said I would not use that modem w/out a full router & firewall. I can see how my statement is a bit bold and possibly offending. Apologies if that's how it came across to you. Anyway, per the specs, it's a decent product and if it has served well for you so far then whom am I to criticize it? I'm just an old student here trying to learn more and teach/help when I can.

    TonyT,

You in no way offened me or came across overbearingly. You owe no apology.

It was just that the cliche "If it is not true for you, it isn't true." was so familiar to me, as explained that it aroused my curiosity to follow your link.

Understandibly the topic of scientology is too much to discuss on an open forum such as this and is not a topic I would endear myself to anyway, though thanks for the invite.
