I am migrating NS7.2 to a new computer with TB1.5 already installed. Following mozillaZine article "Migrate_from Mozilla_Suite_or_Netscape, I deleted the default profile, opened TB and found only the Import Outlook Express or Outlook Mail and Settings, but NOT Netscape.

I tried uninstalling TB and redownloaded TB and - same options, NO NS7.x.

I am sure that the prior version allowed this. Is this a bug or did Mozilla delete the option to import NS, which worked fine on my old machine.

Maybe that is the clue? Do I have to have Netscape already ON this machine rather than just the profile data?

Ramona, you are the whiz. What should I do? I have read everything for hours.

TB 1.07 did it - what happened to NS import option in TB 1.5

If I can get a copy of TB 1.07 which does not appear on the download site, then I can simply upgrade to TB1.5?

    Red Rocket,
it is not clear to me what you did. You mention deleting the default profile. That sound ominous to me. What do you mean by that?
Otherwise, the only time I did an automatic copying of settings was done with the other program installed. You would not be able to anything automatically if the program is there. But, you could copy the needed files in the profile's account folder, such as Inbox and Sent file, and paste them in the Thunderbird equivalent.
Not knowing if the operating systems were the same, I will give you a link from Ramona's website . Ideally, I would set up Netscape7.2 in the new computer. You can't expect that TB import the settings, unless you have the two computer tied together (I don't quite understand that type of stuff). But whatever you say is confusing, since you did not give a link to the Mozillazine article.
    So, please give some information.

Yes, you would need both Netscape & Thunderbird on the same machine in order to migrate or "Import" Mail from one application to the other.

You can download Thunderbird 1.0.7 here, altho not necessary:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/1.0.7/win32/en-US/

    OR

You can copy the entire Thunderbird folder from this location on the old PC, if you run Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Thunderbird
or if you run Windows 98 on the old PC:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Thunderbird

    Next:
On the new PC, ensure that Thunderbird is closed
Open Windows Explorer, and rename the existing Thunderbird folder, e.g.,
XThunderbird, or move the Thunderbird folder to a temporary location.

    Now:
Copy the Thunderbird folder which you copied from the old PC to the Application Data Folder on the new PC.

Start Thunderbird, and everything will be in place.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Migrate from NS7.2 > TB1.5

    Ramona,

I want to move lots of NS7.2 email, addresses etc from WinXP on OldHP to TB1.07 or TB1.5 on WinXP on NewHP.

Previously I had installed TB1.07 on OldHP and it ran fine and imported all mail up to Aug, 05, but I did not abandon the NS7.2 because I was used to the Nav/Communicator Suite which NS7.2 offered. I later removed TB as a program.

This morning, I downloaded TB1.0.7 to import all mail and addresses from NS7.2, but TB did not give me the option to import and instead only found the original Aug, 05 mail etc.

I ran search and found the TB profile which I deleted and uninstalled TB again. This time TB did give me the option to import, which took a long time.

I will copy the entire TB folder C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Thunderbird to same location on NewHP.

****** EVERYTHING WORKED AS SUGGESTED ! ! ! Thanks, it always seems so easy AFTERWARDS.

    I have TB1.0.7. Should I install TB1.5?

And, WHY did Mozilla get rid of the option to import NS7.2 in TB1.5?

NOW, for another issue with this import. I have corrupted mail files within the NS7.2 mail which I just imported. I have placed these within Mail folders marked "Corrupt-DO NOT OPEN ". Can I think that TB1.0.7 will be able to delete these files which I could not delete within NS7.2?

I have no idea about TB1.5 not being able to import NS7.2 mail.
I would expect that it would not work if you still have 1.0.7 installed. I never did the automatic importing with any TB, or even Firefox browser. I, always, did the manual trick. And, the number of folders do not matter. It can be done.
I have both 1.0.7 and 1.5, each with its own profile, and they get along fine. Only one of them can be the default mail client, of course.
As for my preferences, I cannot see too much in 1.5 which would help an average user.

As for the corrupt mail folder, I gather that the problem is in your inability to delete that mail. You should try to do it at your ISP website, should they still be there. If at the website your folder is not seen, test by moving back one of the messages to your inbox, and, then, see if the message is there. You should be able to delete any such mail at the website. They are usually junk mail. And, I was stuck with a couple hundred of those, and was able to delete them all.
I am not sure what happens since you already segregated that mail. Can you delete the entire "Corrupt-DO NOT OPEN" folder?

TB1.0.7 can't delete imported corrupted mail folder

Nope, the mail folder labelled Corrupt will not delete.

The subfolders which are nstp, nstp1, etc., when deleted or moved to Trash, appear to be deleted, but after closing TB, they reappear again. Luckily, these folders are empty, so I guess they are not harming anything, but NS7.2 frequently would hang on compacting and sometimes produce nstp files which are what these are

    Monte,

Close the browser, then open Windows Explorer. Delete the corrupt folder in your Mail\mail_account folder. When you open your Mail & Newsgroups, then compact your folders, and see if that folder is gone for good.

You can also delete the nstmp files in the
    C:\Documents and Settings\profilename\Local Settings\Temp folder

Now... I moved my Thunderbird 1.5 folder out of the Application Data folder, so I could bring up the Import Wizard. I made a Screen Shot, which you can see below, and please note that Netscape 7 is included.

    Worked like a champ

    Ramona,

Sorry I am just getting back to you but I was so behind on my email ...
    It worked!

Now, is there anything needed to upgrade to TB1.5?

    redrocket,

    No sweat installing Thunderbird 1.5:

    Uninstall 1.0.7 via Add/Remove
    Next:
Delete the Mozilla Thunderbird Programs folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird

    REBOOT YOUR PC

Install Thunderbird 1.5, and it will find your existing Profile, and you won't have to do anything further. As a fail safe, make a backup copy of your Thunderbird folder in C:\~ Applications Data\Thunderbird, before you begin.

Note: It is not necessary to uninstall 1.0.7. I never replace a well established program with one which I know little. I do not know what it would, if I allow the installation to go on on its own, but I have my 1.0.7, which is still my default mail in the Program Files|Mozilla Thunderbird folder. Thunderbird is installed by using a Custom Install, and I have it located in a folder out side the Program Files folder. And, each version has its own profile, so Thunderbird1.0.7 will open from Firefox or Netscape8.1, being the default mail. Thunderbird1.5 is opened from K-Meleon0.9, where you can select a different mail clients.
I have, pretty much, the same accounts in both clients, but the order is different, so, I have the best of all possible worlds.
