OE doesn't always add addresses to Address Book

Outlook Express doesn't always add addresses to the Address Book, even though the box is checked beside 'Automatically put people I reply to in my Address Book'.

Additionally, I reckon it'd be useful (for me, anyway) to add addresses of ALL outgoing mail to the address book. I frequently send mail to people I've never sent to before and I find it a nuisance that, if I go to send such a person a SECOND mail, I have to copy their details from the Properties of the first mail.

Sure, I could add stuff manually to the address book, but it takes time.

Anyone know of a fix or a third-party add-on that might sort this?

Well, that should work. But sometimes the Address Book does not list new addresses where you think they should be. Make a more thorough view of the Address Book. Note that by clicking the columns headed "Name" and "E-Mail Address" you can rearrange the order of the listings.
But if the new address really is not being entered, is this happening all the time or just some of the time?
And please tell us which version of IE and Windows you are using. The ways of repairing OE, if this what is needed, are different depending on the versions.

I am not aware that OE offers that as an automatic option. When you first have the person's email address, open the Address Book and, using New|New Contact, create a New Contact.

 

As I said, I'm using XP Pro. OE is fairly recent - to be specific it's 6.00.2900.2180. However, I've been a computer tech for nearly twenty years and to the best of my knowledge, there hasn't been a version of Outlook Express that has this ability.

Re Address Book column layouts, all that's necessary is to keep the contacts pane open on the main OE page. Any address book changes are registered there instantly.

Yes, I'm aware that I can manually add addresses to the address book. But I'd rather have a system that did it automatically.

I guess I was hoping that someone might know of a reg tweak or a third-party app that would fix this inability.
