Hi all I just noticed a change in the way my inbox acts when I click on the mark as junk button. It will open the next one in the inbox automatically, even though I haven't clicked on it! So in other words after I recieve my mail and all of the junk mail has been moved to the junk mail folder (at least what TB thinks is junk) and some still remains in my in box I use to be able to mark the remaining as junk (if they were) with out opening anything in the inbox but now I can't.Is this somthing new with 1.5 TB, or have I changed something by mistake

did you check your Junk mail settings? And, you say open the next one. do you mean that the next e-mail opens without you doing anything. If View|Message Pane is checked, it will do that. It is not a good idea to allow anything open, and, you can always drag down the divider so that you don't see the Preview.
If you mean something else, it is not clear.

This is hard to explain! when I open Thunderbird all of my email is downloaded, I haven't touched anything, the filters run,and so does junk mail, I still have not highlighted any messages I click on my inbox and the junk mail messages that TB has missed, I could just click on the little dot next to the date and mark it as junk, Before and it would delete it! I could do this for all of the remaining junk mail without opening anything but now it will open the next email in line and I dont want it to do that I hope this explains it better

You don't say whether the emails are opening in a new window or the preview pane. If you mean that they are opening in the preview pane try the Toggle Preview Pane extension above. When you open your inbox and before selecting any emails, toggle the preview pane off. Now select any messages to be marked as junk. After cleaning the junk out of your inbox you can toggle the preview pane back on to quickly view the emails you wish to read. If you leave the preview pane off, double click the messages to open and read. Hope this helps.

I just downloaded the extension and yes it works great! But I didn't have to do anything like this before is it an 1.5 thing? the messages are opening in preview pane where it never did this before also f8 will toggle the preview pain on and off but the toolbar ext. is nicer I think. thx

Is this new? I don't know, I've been using the toggle since TB1.0.6.

    sutsujsti,

In Tools | Options | Advanced | General

Disable: Remember the last selected message (if you have it enabled)

Now you can click the dot, and the next message won't be highlighted. You shouldn't need an extension for this... ;)

Well its doing it again! it seems to come and go at will (no set pattern)! sometimes it will act like it should, letting me mark all of the junk in the inbox without opening anything in the inbox. Sometimes it will open the next piece of mail in the inbox.
Also I have noticed that the junk mail filter is missing a lot (out of 10 junk mail 2 will go to the junk folder).I uninstalled TB and reinstalled it with no better results! I have been contemplating turning off junk mail and re starting it and re training but not sure this will help on the junk mail part!

    sutsujsti,

I believe what you are experiencing may be a bug, as I have seen a few other users complaining of the same behavior of Junk Mail. Have you tried right clicking the message and selecting: Mark | As Junk or As Not Junk? Does this cause the next message to be opened?

Reinstalling of the program will do nothing, as the problem is in your Profile.

This is what I suggest: In your salted folder, i.e., xxxxxxxx.profilename, rename the training.dat file, Xtraining.dat. This will temporarily disable the Junk Mail Filter. Now mark ALL mail, as Junk or As Not Junk. It could be that the training.dat file is corrupt. See how it goes for a week or so, and if the problem ends, then delete the renamed Xtraining.dat file.

    sutsujsti,

Really? Well it certainly shouldn't! Try it again and let me know, and if this continues I will see if anyone has filed a bug yet.

    Thanks!

Hi Ramona yes it still opens the next one in line when I right click on it and mark it as junk or not junk. I went and renamed training to xtraining and so far everything is still the same! still opening the next one in the box. I noticed while I was renaming the training file that all of the DAT. files were Nero associated ?Should I change that?

Don't worry about the Nero file association. I think Nero just needs that for its own programs to work.

DAT files will still behave normally for other programs that use them.

How's the problem coming? No one knows the insides of Mozilla and derivatives like Ramona! But please tell whether you've resolved your problem and how so others can benefit! And if it's not solved, ya gotta keep posting your progress so she can help or find out if it's a bug that should be reported to bugzilla.

    Or, free country! Just suggesting.

Thx for the replys! and yes its still doing it! It seems that if I let the email come in and don't read any email in other boxes like (tom, ted, fred, ect.) and mark the mail in my inbox as junk everything seems to work fine. But if I read any email in another box and single click on my inbox, then go and try to to mark them as junk thats when it will open the next one in my inbox. I will try it again (as soon as I get some more email) and let you know if it works that way everytime

    sutsujsti,

I think changing the .DAT file association is a good idea.
Open Windows Explorer, and click on: Tools | Folder Options | File Types
    Scroll down to DAT file
    Click on the "Edit" Tab
    Highlight: Open
Then click on the "Edit" Tab
In the field for: Application used to perform this action, insert the below:
    C:\Progra~1\Access~1\WORDPAD.EXE "%1 "
Then OK your way out of Windows Explorer

Hi again I tried what you said about changing the file association and I couldn't find a dat file where you said in windows Explorer (xp must be diff ) so I opened nero and changed it in there; Will let you know if it helps.
I was correct in what I said in my last post, I just checked my mail and if I don't open anything in other boxes (ted, fred, tom Ect.) I can mark the junk emails in my inbox and it will not open the next one inline! But if I go and read another email in a different box like tom and read all the ones in there and go back to my inbox single click on inbox then try to mark any as junk it WILL open the next inline

I have WinXP Home, and the .dat file association is listed, between .cur and .db.
Wordpad is the application of choice.

As for your other problem, I don't know what's going on. In my case, I always make sure that View|Layout|Message Pane is unchecked. I,actually, drag down the "thingy" which is separating the message headers, and the preview.
I have also set my preferences to open a message in the same window. There is no way that another message will open, for me at least, unless I double click on the next header.

Hi Westside I don't know why but my .dat is not there! I check my 2nd computer and there not listed either. (Must be a view or some other thing!)
I agree with your 2nd statement I have resorted to toggle my message pain off (either F8 or the extension I downloaded Mr Tech.toggle preview pane) untill I have taken care of all my junk mail, But I never had to do it before so somthing has gone amuck! or they have changed something in TB1.5
