    Hello. Sad person here.

I read the entire thread at http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=30208 hoping it would end with a solution, but it did not. I am experiencing the same probelm as that person, no event viewer errors either. XP Pro. Any further thoughts from anyone? I did attempt to extract the file again, but all it did was copy the NUSRMGR.CP_ file to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 - as far as I can tell the file itself was not expanded.

i didn't read the thread but ... define u'r exact method to extract the file u mention. it seems that u did not rename it to proper is all.

    expand source destionation

is the syntax so ... if u'r source is d:\i386\NUSRMGR.CP_ and u'r destination is c:\windows\system32 then u'r command is:

    expand d:\i386\NUSRMGR.CP_ c:\windows\system32\NUSRMGR.CPL

and i guessed L as the end letter on the file. if it's not, substitute the proper one.

if the file is in use or errors on the attempt, i'd do this from a recovery console boot.

I used msconfig to expand the file. The file in i386 and the file when extracted were the same size. Msconfig doesn't give any "failure" or "success" message, and it isn't clear to me exactly what to put into the entry fields.

    Expand: nusrmgr.cpl
    Restore from: c:\i386\nusrmgr.cp_
    Restore to: c:\windows\system32

Using recovery console to rename the file from CP_ to CPL did not solve the problem.

sfc /scannow likewise ended silently, no error, no report. However to understand fully the probelm one must read the prior thread.

I believe the problem must lie in the registry or, perhaps, in control.exe.

It is interesting that I am also unable to open the Mail control panel. I have no Micorsoft mail products installed, with the exception of OE, which I have never used. Windows NT Messaging is likewise not installed and not used.
