System Restore will not run

system Restore won't start. get message
When I attempt to open System Restore I get an Error message as follows:

AppName: rundll32.exe AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModName: srrstr.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 000099b2

Have tried other corrections from other threads but I get stopped at every turn, any simple way to get this started again. have tried disabling and then reenabling to no avail.

Further System Restore failure

I tried right clicking sr.inf , it then requests Windsows XP SP2 Cd which I try placing in cd drive and it says cannot find the file, how do I open the file from the SP2 CD..

When you tried using the cd did you browse to the I386 folder? If not, try browsing to the I386 folder and selecting it if it gives you that option.

 

what's in startup? does this disk pass a check? is it up to date? and has it cleared a current virus/bad_guy scan?

run a disk check

run a virus scan w/ current dats - spyware etc maybe here too

run windowsupdate and get it all thru custom button - reboot

kill everything in startup and try - mike lin's startup panel can help ya here or use msconfig

 

Re System Restore.

Running Win XP Pro, have Zonealarm Security suite running at all times, also Ad Aware, Spybot, and Giant Anti Spyware.

Have Virus scan up todate, also have Windows Update running for latest updates for Windows.

Also I can't get into MSCONFIG, says I am not administrator, whareas I am logged as such and have always been....

The above seem to be only problems, and do not seem to affect anything else, except would like to have the option to get into system restore if need be.

Seems to have started since I installed a wireless USB connection, and or a Matchmusic program that came with my new mouse Logitech, I had hard time getting rid of it from my computer, but seems to be gone now.

I have tried looking at both the original Win XP CD and XP@ Cd and cannot find file i386 in either, also says I have wrong version of Win XP CD although that is the CD that I installed from, Assume SP2 has all the new files but cannot find file sr.inf, to run

Oh well will keep looking and if all else fails will take to shop and see what they can do for me.

hmmm ... sys_restore is dead and u can't run MSCONFIG while logged on as admin?? ... i'd say a bad guy is there check w/ a trojan scan and maybe check u'r AV for updates too.

i'd only run one antispyware - actually i'd opt to not run any but ... that's me

if u create a new account and logon, do the problems follow?

u can also logon as admin given u've got xp pro by doing CTRL+ALT and tap DEL twice at the welcome screen - IF u've got pro only as it won't work on HOME.
