Hello, I have a problem with Thunderbird 1.5 after I Uninstalled Spamhilator.
When I try to open T-Bird E-Mail software it open all the way but I get an ALERT Box that says "Could not connect to server 127.0.0.1 The connection was refused" and it stops me from checking my e-mail . It does it for both my account names. It did say when I uninstalled Spamhilator it may cause troubles with my E-Mail program but I did it anyway :(
    Any help greatly appreaciated,,,
    Thank you,,
    Paul:cool:

This could be a messy one - Possible Spamhilator has a process to correct this.
When you have server 127.0.0.1 in the email process, the following occurs when you check / download your email messages ...
    1) Spamhilator connects to your ISP email server and downloads your emails.
    2) Spamhilator then filters your emails inside server 127.0.0.1 (your computer).
    3) When Spamhilator is finished, Thunderbird retrieves the emails from server 127.0.0.1. By removing Spamhilator, process (1) can not occur, which creates process (2) and (3).
Some how you have to tell / re-teach Thunderbird to go directly to your ISP email server and downloads your emails. Do not know of any simply solution. Create some current email backups. :) Hopefully Ramona or Westside :) will guide you in creating new email accounts and copy in your previous emails.

    Paul,

The older Norton AV did the same thing, i.e., renamed the Server to 127.0.0.1. You will need to go in and change the Server Name in the Account settings.

    Change it from: 127.0.0.1
To the name of your Mail server, e.g.,: pop.earthlink.net

In Thunderbird that can be changed here:
Tools | Account Settings | Server Settings

Also ensure that your outgoing (SMTP) setting is correct.

Also look at your C:\AutoExec.bat file in Notepad. If there is any reference there to Spamhilator or to 127.0.0.1. If there is, then copy the file and post it here.

Also check to see if there is any other autoexec file in C:\.

First off, THANKS Ramona & DennisL for your help. Ramona I did what you said about taking out 127.0.0.1 and replaced it with mail.comcast.net. While it stopped the aleart for "Could not connect to server 127.0.0.1 The connection was refused" now it continues to ask for my password in this box that says "mail.comcast.net &cooldep on mail.comcast.net I can send mail from T-Bird.
Ramona, I don't know how to bring up C:\AutoExec.bat file in Notepad.
I'm sorry for the *****-up on my part.
    Hope this helps some,,
    ~~Paul

Dear Ramona , I'm so sorry for being so thick...I Open Notepad and then click on: File | Open but I can't find C:\autoexec.bat
I'm believe it or not usually able to follow directions. After I follow your directions and I get to C:\ I set the "Files or types box" to All Files but I just can't find the Autoexec.bat file.
I won't blame you if you give up on trying to get me the help I'm asking for. I have been using OE6 to get my e-mail in the mean time. I got this e-mail without asking,http://206.225.87.159/

    Thank-you,
    ~~Paul

    Paul,

I would never abandon you! I should have first asked what OS you were running, and is it Windows XP? If so:

    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

To search for files go to Start | Search.
Under More Advanced Options select Search system folders, Search
Hidden Files and folders, and Search subfolders.

Have you tried a search for autoexec.bat? If not, give it a whirl... Perhaps another XP user will jump in and tell us where that file is located...

    Paul,

    Just found this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AUTOEXEC.BAT

So, as XP isn't based on DOS, evidently the autoexec file isn't used at startup! So never mind!

What you might do is run MSCONFIG, and look to see if Spamhilator is in your Start Menu. If it is you can disable it by unchecking. See this page for details on how: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

There must be something different in winXP. In my search I turn up a MS_DOS file called AUTOEXEC.BAT file, dated before I got my computer, 0Kb, and when I tried to select to open it, I was told that it was not a valid Win32 application.
It was right on the C drive.

Great idea Ramona,,I'm doing that right now. I'll setup T-Bird by Comcast then call them if I still have a problem. I didn't think Comcast showed how to do T-Bird, they only use to show OE. You have been the best Ramona..I'll post back as soon as I get it fixed,,
    Sincerely,,Paul

Once you have verified your settings, then give Comcast a call, and tell them about the "Box Locked" error. Ensure that your password is correct, no typo, etc. You might even try deleting the password, and re entering.[/QUOTE]

A Fix for my T-Bird problem

Dear Ramona and all the wonderful people that helped me.
I finally fixed the trouble with T-Bird caused by uninstalling Spamihilatar,
an additional Spam blocking piece of software. Ramona, where you told me how to change server name in Tools/Account Settings/Server Settings from 127.0.0.1 to mail.comcast.net worked. It then kept asking for my password but it still would not work. After going to Comcast help page to configure Thunderbird E-mail that you showed me where it was. Right under the "Server Name "box was "User name" and that was all messed up. I just put in my user name for account [Cooldep]. Presto, you did it Ramona. Thank you so much for staying with me. You gave me the confidence to stick with it..
    God Bless :D ,,,,
    Paul :)
