dont know where this goes if it needs to go into windows xp could someone move it,
i have windows live safety center on both my 2k and my xp on during the run on the xp in the clean disk section it said that i had over 85k in temporty files that i could remove. i did. now im thinking that seems like a huge amount of files to get in one day. i run the safety scan daily always asking to remove temp files. thats almost 85mb? (correct my math please) could that totally remove my desktop, start button, task bar? are these computers trying to drive me crazy or are they just really really mad at me for some reason?

    input y'll?

If they are temp files they are safe to delete. What they are is files that are created during the inital install of programs or are generated while a program is running for a temp storage location. There are *.tmp file extension, and usually lots of *.txt and some *.exe files in there.

No it won't wipe out your profile.

I think any .tmp file in Windows XP, even an empty one, uses a minimum of 32KB of Hard Drive space.
If you have installed any programs during a session, it may be best to not delete your Temp files until after a reboot. Some programs use the Temp files on reboot to complete the installation.

I can personaly vouch for that happening.

In other words I have been there and done that. And hope that I do not do it again.
