i used taskmanger to run adaware, spybot, microsoft anti spy, and i used it again to bring up another browser and here i am. for some reason i did not see ie on my desktop so i presumed its dead too. it wasnt listed in task manager.

You didn't indicate that you first selecting whatever program was having a problem before you clicked End Task. If you didn't select something, whatever was highlighted was forced to close. On the off chance that might have been Windows Explorer:

In Task Manager, if "explorer.exe" is listed in Processes, click on it once to select it, click on End Task. Do not close Task Manager. If it's not listed, go to the next step.

Go to the Applications tab, click "New Task," type "explorer.exe" (without the quotes), click OK. It's a way of "rebooting" explorer exe which should restore the missing items.

after i posted,i thought about rebooting. there were some glitches like freezing had to reboot twice. and pull the power cord on the modem for a couple seconds to get back online.

but there for awhile i had no desk-top i right clicked to get properties and nothing i had a screen saver, and microsoft ran a schedule anti-spy scan, while i was at windows live safety center running that. i got around like i said by using task master/manager( ctl-alt-del) then another browser(avant)and i would like to know why? what happened?
    windows froze on media(folder)
    ctl-alt-del to end task
    no desktop just background
    ctl-alt-del show nothing running
and that is how it was. cleaned up my desktop and so far desktop is where it is supposed to be. but i do not want an occurence of desktop going awol, i even pressed the microsoft logo key without any result. still very:confused:
