I have a new PC (XP) and I would like to set up a network with my old PC (WIN 98) in order to transfer files (pictures, Outlook address book, Word and Excel Docs, etc.) from the old machine to the new machine. I then intend to ditch the old computer so I do not need a permenant network set up. I purchased a CAT 5 network cord for the project thinking it would be easy to "see" the old computer as a drive in XP but so far no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    MandyMo

As mentioned in many previous posts...you need a crossover cable NOT a standard CAT 5 cable. 568A on one end and 568B on the other.

Just for another option....it would probably be simplier and faster to just take the hard drive from your old computer and install it in your new computer as a slave..........

    Good luck.
