Without using the welcome screen in XP, is there a way to have a default username automatically filled in? That way, the default user only has to supply the password, and not their username. Any help is much appreciated.

That is the default behavior when using the "classic" log on.

I manage an XP-pro computer which runs without the welcome screen. It has two user accounts and when a user logs out or restarts the computer, it always displays the name of the most recently logged in user. Only the password has to be entered.

I have not seen an option to change that.

Yes, that is the correct way it works... :D

There's a registry hack that will disable this, so you'll need to enter the username & password.

Thanks for the comments. Just to clarify, the XP Pro workstation is used by multiple users, however, on the login screen I would like the default user to always be entered in the username even if a different user was the last to logon. The default user will always need to enter his own password (it won't be automatic). Is this possible?

the default action on the CTRL+ALT+DEL old school logon is to fill in the username of the last successfull account to logon. if u don't see that, check u'r local security settings/local policies/security options for the interactive logon options. this has a 'do not display last user name' option which is 'not defined' by default but can be enabled/disabled here.

u can do start/run secpol.msc to get the above

if u'r on a domain, see the security option on the domain controller or such if they are active.

i THINK that u may be able to use tweakui's 'autologon' setting to force a username and then just don't fill in the password section. i didn't try this tho.
