    Hello all,

I'm trying to get my new Canon camera to upload pix to my XP Pro computer and we have determined the WIA will not start. I have gone to services.msc from the Run menu and told it to start and I get this error message:

Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.

This computer is on a home network and the WIA on the other computer is started. This computer is using an AMD Duron chip if that makes any difference.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Have you loaded the Canon software to both computers - especially the driver?

Not yet. Both the Canon manual and Microsoft say I shouldn't have to, but I will after I solve some other more pressing issues with XP Pro.

I upgraded today from XP Home to XP Pro with SP2. So far here are the really irritating problems that have cropped up:

    1. The upgrade completely got rid of my Outlook Express mail, addresses, etc. Everything! I even had to re-enter my pop/smtp mail settings.

    2. Using IE6 SP2 when I type something in the address bar and press enter or hit the Go button nothing happens. Nothing! If I use the search function of the MSN homepage (default) and then click on something in the results I can make my way to cnn, google, etc. What a royal pain.

    3. To top it all off I can't even un-install XP Pro because it doesn't show up in the Add/Remove Programs list!!

Somebody tell me why I shouldn't chuck this whole thing and go get a Mac which I have never owned, but I hear work quite well. To say I am frustrated is putting it mildly.

    Any help out there??

    Thanks, in advance.

    Tom

PS. I need an angry face icon with steam coming out of it's head!

Well, I have partially resolved issue #2. Now just tell me how to tell IE6 to put http:// in front of whatever I type in the address bar.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Do you have Autocomplete checked? Tools > Internet Options > Content > Autocomplete.

You cannot uninstall XP Pro - that is your operating system and does not appear in Add/Remove Programs. The problems you are experiencing are with SP2 and not, IMO, with the upgrade from Home to Pro.

    Problems Solved

    PeteC,

Thanks for your help with my issues. After several calls and numerous hours over two days with Microsoft my issues have been resolved. I wish I knew exactly what they did, but I gave them remote control of my PC and wasn't able to follow all that transpired. The tech rep in India knew his stuff and was very patient so I can't complain. I wish the guy had been in the U.S., but that is a battle we've already lost. :(

    Thanks agian,

    Tom
